Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> muscle re-education. Methods <strong>of</strong> determining specific muscle<br />

weaknesses; restoration <strong>of</strong> normal function following injury.<br />

PE 532. Heat Therapy and Massage. 3 hours.<br />

The theory and technique <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> heat and cold as first-aid measures and<br />

as adjuncts to rehabilitative procedures practiced by physical educators. The<br />

commonly used techniques <strong>of</strong> massage, their physiological and mechanical<br />

effect, and their application by physical educators.<br />

PE 533. Techniques <strong>of</strong> Relaxation. 3 hours.<br />

The common causes <strong>of</strong> fatigue and neuromuscular hypertension; methods <strong>of</strong><br />

combating them. Theories underlying techniques <strong>of</strong> relaxation; application <strong>of</strong><br />

these techniques in daily living and in activities.<br />

PE 540, 541. Statistical Methods in Physical Education. 3 hours each term.<br />

The use <strong>of</strong> norms, comparable scores, rating scales, multiple regression, curve<br />

fitting, and factor analysis as tools <strong>of</strong> research and interpretation <strong>of</strong> physical<br />
