education; curriculum construction at the junior and senior high-school<br />

and junior-college levels; instructional problems; significant related research.<br />

Prerequisite: senior standing, consent <strong>of</strong> instructor. Jones.<br />

BEd 422. Business Education and the Community. (g) 3 hours.<br />

Auditory and visual aids; types <strong>of</strong> institutions <strong>of</strong>fering business education;<br />

current educational attitudes <strong>of</strong> business and labor; community surveys and<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> local needs; guidance programs; placement and follow-up; school<br />

and business standards; objectives and principles <strong>of</strong> measurement in business<br />

education. Prerequisites: senior standing, consent <strong>of</strong> instructor. Jones.<br />

BEd 423. Problems <strong>of</strong> Business Education. (g) 3 hours.<br />

In-service training for teachers; administrative problems <strong>of</strong> supervision<br />

<strong>of</strong> business education; organization and operation <strong>of</strong> distributive-education<br />

programs on local, state, and national levels; work-experience programs;<br />

effects <strong>of</strong> automation on business education; evaluation <strong>of</strong> text materials.<br />

Marketing, Insurance, and Transportation<br />

THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Marketing, Insurance,<br />

and Transportation are: (I) to provide the student with an understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> the basic functions <strong>of</strong> management as they are applied in the areas <strong>of</strong><br />

marketing, insurance, transportation, and real estate; (2) to give the student an<br />

opportunity to develop fruitful approaches to the solution <strong>of</strong> specialized management<br />

problems in these areas; and (3) to enable the student to develop his<br />

capacity for research and scientific analysis <strong>of</strong> basic problems in the areas <strong>of</strong><br />

marketing, insurance, transportation, and real estate.<br />

The department <strong>of</strong>fers major options in marketing, insurance, transportation,<br />

real estate, and business and construction.<br />

Marketing Advisory Council. The department is aided in its program by the<br />

continuous advice and assistance <strong>of</strong> a Marketing Advisory Council composed <strong>of</strong><br />

prominent representatives from the business community. The members <strong>of</strong> the<br />
