The core courses provide all able graduates with a general education for the<br />
management <strong>of</strong> business firms and a sound management background for careers<br />
in government and education and for life in our highly competitive and technical<br />
society. The major options <strong>of</strong>fered by the several departments provide specialized<br />
training for a variety <strong>of</strong> careers in business.<br />
Accounting and Business Statistics<br />
THE PROGRAM IN ACCOUNTING and business statistics is designed to prepare<br />
students for pr<strong>of</strong>essional careers in these special fields and to provide all<br />
students <strong>of</strong> business with an understanding <strong>of</strong> the theory and techniques <strong>of</strong> quantitative<br />
analysis as a basis for administrative decision making.<br />
General Accounting, The major curriculum in accounting is a four-year program<br />
designed for students who wish to prepare for a pr<strong>of</strong>essional career in business<br />
or government service with an emphasis on accounting and quantitative<br />
analysis <strong>of</strong> business data. The major requirements, in addition to the core program<br />

All majors in general accounting are required to take one year <strong>of</strong> college<br />
mathematics during their lower-division years. Courses in mathematics <strong>of</strong> finance<br />
or similar courses may not be counted toward the satisfaction <strong>of</strong> this requirement.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Accounting, A special five-year program in pr<strong>of</strong>essional accounting<br />
is <strong>of</strong>fered for students who wish to prepare for careers as certified<br />
public accountants or accounting executives. Students who satisfy the requirements<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Graduate School and the School <strong>of</strong> Business Administration may earn<br />
the M.B.A. degree at the end <strong>of</strong> the fifth year. The major requirements, in addition<br />
