LOWER·DIVISION COURSES<br />

AA 290. Painting. 2 to 3 hours any term.<br />

Instruction in the use <strong>of</strong> oil color, water color, and other media. Registration<br />

permitted any term, but it is desirable that the work be started in the fall. 12<br />

term hours required for upper-division standing. Vincent, Ryan, Soeder, Wilkinson,<br />

Foster, Tetzner.<br />

AA 291. Drawing. 1 to 3 hours any term.<br />

Training in observation and selection <strong>of</strong> significant elements. Registration<br />

permitted any term, but it is desirable that the work be started in the fall. 6<br />

term hours required for upper-division standing. Soeder.<br />

AA 292. Water Color. 2 to 3 hours.<br />

The technique and use <strong>of</strong> water color, with special attention to its characteristics<br />

as a painting medium. Emphasis on landscape material. May be substituted<br />

for a third term <strong>of</strong> AA 291 to meet lower-division major requirement.<br />

Open to nonmajors with 4 hours <strong>of</strong> work in AA 291 or with consent <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

Soeder.<br />

*AA 295. Basic Design. 2 hours each term.<br />

Studio participation exercises involving the basic principles <strong>of</strong> design; a<br />

three-term introductory sequence. Open to nonmajors. Special section for<br />

Honors College students. Foster, James, Ryan.<br />

*AA 298. Sketching. 1 hour any term.<br />

Sketching from costumed models, to develop ability to observe clearly and<br />

record accurately. Offered especially for nonmajor students who have had no<br />

previous training in sketching or drawing. Soeder.<br />

UPPER·DIVISION COURSES<br />

AA 349. Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> Print Making. 3 hours.<br />

Graphic reproduction and print techniques in silk screen, block printing, and<br />

photographic processes. Starck.<br />

AA 381. Water Color. 2 to 3 hours.<br />

Continuation <strong>of</strong> AA 292. The technique and use <strong>of</strong> water color, with particular<br />

attention to landscape material. McCosh.<br />
