<strong>of</strong> any term in which the recipient fails to make a GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.50. The county and<br />

legislative district scholarships are four-year awards for study in any State System<br />

institution chosen by the student, but may be canceled if the student fails to<br />

maintain a 2.50 GPA; they are transferable to any other institution <strong>of</strong> the State<br />

System after one year at the initially chosen institution. One new county scholarship<br />

is awarded annually in each county <strong>of</strong> the state; the number <strong>of</strong> new legislative<br />

district scholarships in each district is equal to the number <strong>of</strong> legislative<br />

seats in the district.<br />

State Fee Scholarships for Nonresident Students. A limited number <strong>of</strong><br />

state scholarships are awarded annually to residents <strong>of</strong> the United States who<br />

are not residents <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong>, for study in the institutions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Oregon</strong> State<br />

System <strong>of</strong> Higher Education. These scholarships cover a portion <strong>of</strong> the regular<br />

fees charged by the institutions--at the <strong>University</strong>, $100, $150, or $190 a term.<br />

State Fee Scholarships for Foreign Students. A limited number <strong>of</strong> state<br />

scholarships are awarded annually to students from foreign countries attending<br />

the institutions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Oregon</strong> State System <strong>of</strong> Higher Education. These scholarships<br />

cover a portion <strong>of</strong> the regular fees charged by the institutions-at the<br />

<strong>University</strong>, $190 or $300 a term for undergraduates, $110 a term for graduate<br />

students.<br />

State Cash Scholarships. A limited number <strong>of</strong> cash scholarships, with a<br />

maximum value <strong>of</strong> $500, are awarded annually by the <strong>Oregon</strong> State Scholarship<br />

Commission to especially able graduates <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong> high schools who are in need<br />

<strong>of</strong> financial assistance; the scholarships may be used in any accredited institution<br />

<strong>of</strong> higher education in the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong>. A student may hold both a state<br />

cash scholarship and a state fee scholarship. Application forms may be obtained<br />

only from <strong>Oregon</strong> high-school principals; applications are transmitted by highschool<br />

principals to the State Scholarship Commission.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Assistantships. Teaching and research assistantships are awarded<br />

annually by the <strong>University</strong> to qualified graduate students. For stipends and<br />

application procedure, see GRADUATE SCHOOL.<br />

Associated Women Students Scholarships. The Associated Women Students<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> award scholarships ranging in value from $150 to $250 to<br />

women students. Funds for the support <strong>of</strong> the scholarships are provided through<br />

the service projects <strong>of</strong> Kwama, Phi Theta Upsilon, Heads <strong>of</strong> Houses, and the<br />

Associated Women Students.<br />

Bend Alumni Scholarship. Several $300 scholarships are awarded annually<br />

to freshman students who are graduates <strong>of</strong> Bend High School. The scholarships<br />

are supported by alumni and friends <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> residing in Bend,<br />

<strong>Oregon</strong>.<br />

Robert A. Booth Fellowship in Public Service. This fellowship, supported<br />

by a bequest from the late Robert A. Booth <strong>of</strong> Eugene, <strong>Oregon</strong>, is awarded annually<br />

to an outstanding graduate <strong>of</strong> an accredited college or university. The<br />

award, between $250 and $500, is made on the basis <strong>of</strong> scholarship, character,<br />

personality, and interest in public service as a career.<br />

Coca Cola Scholarship. This scholarship, at present approximately $400, is<br />

awarded biennially to a graduating senior <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong>, as an aid<br />

to postgraduate study at the <strong>University</strong>. In choosing a Coca Cola scholar, a faculty<br />

committee gives consideration to scholastic record, character, good citizenship, and<br />

promise as a graduate student. The scholarship is endowed through a gift from<br />

John G. Foster <strong>of</strong> Eugene, <strong>Oregon</strong>.
