funds provided by the <strong>Oregon</strong> Scholastic Press and friends <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Journalism.<br />
Recipients are selected chiefly on the basis <strong>of</strong> high-school scholarship,<br />
journalistic interest and ability, and financial need.<br />
Pendleton East <strong>Oregon</strong>ian Scholarship. The Pendleton East <strong>Oregon</strong>ian<br />
awards annually a fee scholarship to a Pendleton student majoring in journalism.<br />
Register-Guard 20-Year Club Scholarship. A $100 scholarship is awarded<br />
annually by the 20-Year Club <strong>of</strong> the Eugene Register-Guard to a sophomore or<br />
junior student in journalism who shows promise <strong>of</strong> achievement in the field,<br />
whose home is in the circulation area <strong>of</strong> the Register-Guard, and who has a need<br />
for financial assistance.<br />
Sweet Memorial Scholarship. A $300 scholarship, named in memory <strong>of</strong> the<br />
late Miss Florence Sweet, is awarded annually to a freshman student who intends<br />
to major in journalism. Miss Sweet was adviser to the Pendleton High School<br />
Lantern and president <strong>of</strong> the National Association <strong>of</strong> Journalism Directors. Funds<br />
for the scholarship are provided by the <strong>Oregon</strong> Scholastic Press and friends <strong>of</strong><br />
the School <strong>of</strong> Journalism.<br />
Law<br />
James D. Barnett Scholarship. A $300 Barnett scholarship is awarded annually<br />
by the faculty <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Law to a needy and worthy student. The<br />
scholarship is supported through the income <strong>of</strong> an endowment fund, established<br />
by Mrs. Winifred Barnett Allendoerfer and Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Carl Allendoerfer, in<br />
memory <strong>of</strong> Dr. James D. Barnett, member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> faculty from 1908<br />
until his death in 1957.<br />
Henry E. Collier Law Scholarships. Several scholarships are awarded annually,<br />
on the basis <strong>of</strong> financial need and good moral character, to worthy men<br />
students in the School <strong>of</strong> Law who intend to make the practice <strong>of</strong> law their life<br />
work. The scholarships are supported by the income <strong>of</strong> a $50,000 trust fund established<br />
under the will <strong>of</strong> the late Henry E. Collier, Portland attorney. No recipient<br />
may be awarded more than $500 in anyone year.<br />
Lorienne Conlee Fowler Law Scholarship. The Lorienne Conlee Fowler<br />
Scholarship is awarded, on the basis <strong>of</strong> need and scholastic record, to a woman<br />
student entering the School <strong>of</strong> Law; the scholarship may be renewed as long as the<br />
recipient continues to make satisfactory progress toward a pr<strong>of</strong>essional law degree.<br />
The award consists <strong>of</strong> the income <strong>of</strong> a $5,000 trust fund established by Dr. Frank<br />
E. Fowler, Class <strong>of</strong> '20, in memory <strong>of</strong> his wife, Mrs. Lorienne Conlee Fowler.<br />
Herbert B. Galton Scholarship. A $200 scholarship is provided annually by<br />
Herbert B. Galton, a Portland attorney and a member <strong>of</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> '38, to be<br />
,,-warded to a second-year student, for use during his third year in the School <strong>of</strong><br />
Law, on the basis <strong>of</strong> academic performance, production for the OREGON LAW<br />
REVIEW, and interest in the field <strong>of</strong> labor law demonstrated by writings published<br />
in the REVIEW.<br />
Charles G. Howard Law Scholarships. Several scholarships, <strong>of</strong> varying<br />
amounts, are awarded annually on the basis <strong>of</strong> satisfactory academic progress,<br />
financial need, and the applicant's effort to solve his own financial problems, to<br />
second- and third-year students in the School <strong>of</strong> Law. The scholarships are supported<br />
through a trust fund established by members <strong>of</strong> Phi Alpha Delta, legal<br />
fraternity, and are named in honor <strong>of</strong> Charles G. Howard, pr<strong>of</strong>essor emeritus <strong>of</strong><br />
law, and a member <strong>of</strong> the faculty <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Law since 1928.<br />
James T. Landye Scholarship. A $300 scholarship is awarded annually by<br />
the trustees <strong>of</strong> the James T. Landye Scholarship Fund to a needy and worthy
