Majors in business economics are required to take Business Fluctuations and<br />
Expansion (FBE 466) as one <strong>of</strong> their senior-year core courses.<br />
Business Teacher Education. The option in business teacher education provides<br />
a thorough background in business administration and pr<strong>of</strong>essional courses<br />
in education to prepare students for the teaching <strong>of</strong> business and economic subjects<br />
in the secondary schools. Two programs have been arranged, one emphasizing<br />
preparation for the teaching <strong>of</strong> secretarial subj ects, the other emphasizing<br />
basic business; both programs prepare the students for the teaching <strong>of</strong> typing.<br />
Secretarial. The requirements are as follows: (1) completion <strong>of</strong> the core<br />
program <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Business Administration (except Production Management),<br />
(2) the specialized courses listed below, (3) competence in the skill subjects<br />
prerequisite to Applied Stenography (SS 213), demonstrated by examination<br />
or by college-level courses, and (4) completion <strong>of</strong> the general requirements<br />
for secondary teacher certification.<br />

The following electives are recommended for all majors in business teacher<br />
education: Personnel Management (PIM 412), Government Control <strong>of</strong> Private<br />
Business (Ec 461).<br />
For certification as a teacher <strong>of</strong> business education in <strong>Oregon</strong> high schools,<br />
the student's program must include the subject-preparation requirements <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Oregon</strong> State Department <strong>of</strong> Education. These requirements are: for a basic<br />
certificate, granted after four years <strong>of</strong> college work, a basic-norm-42 term hours<br />
<strong>of</strong> college work in business education, including a total <strong>of</strong> 9 term hours in economics,<br />
business law, and business fundamentals, and 33 term hours in business<br />
courses taught in high school, including work in typing, shorthand, bookkeeping,<br />
and <strong>of</strong>fice practice; for a standard certificate, granted after five years <strong>of</strong> college<br />
