Admission<br />

TO BE ADMITTED to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong> a student must be <strong>of</strong> good<br />

moral character and must present evidence <strong>of</strong> acceptable preparation for work at<br />

the college level. Every person wishing to earn credit in the regular sessions <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>University</strong> must file with the Director <strong>of</strong> Admissions: (1) an application on<br />

an <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>University</strong> form; (2) <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts <strong>of</strong> all high-school and college<br />

records.<br />

Application and transcripts <strong>of</strong> records should be filed well before the applicant<br />

intends to enter the <strong>University</strong>; late filing may delay or prevent registration.<br />

If a student fails to submit the required documents in complete and satisfactory<br />

form, his admission and registration may be canceled. All records submitted<br />

become the property <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Students planning to enter the <strong>University</strong> in the fall term should file their<br />

applications for admission with the Director <strong>of</strong> Admissions not later than August<br />

31. A late-filing fee <strong>of</strong> $10.00 is charged if applications are filed later than this date.<br />

Deferred Enrollment. If it is determined, before the opening <strong>of</strong> the 1964-65<br />

session, that the <strong>University</strong> enrollment will otherwise exceed the total on which<br />

the 1964-65 budget is based, a plan <strong>of</strong> deferred enrollment may be put into effect.<br />

Under this plan, the qualitative requirements for admission will remain unchanged.<br />

But, in the case <strong>of</strong> students whose records are submitted after the effective<br />

date <strong>of</strong> the plan, permission to enroll in the fall term will be given on the<br />

basis <strong>of</strong> more restrictive qualitative standards; students who do not meet these<br />

more restrictive standards but do meet general standards stated below will be<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficially admitted to the <strong>University</strong> with enrollment deferred until the winter or<br />

spring term. Early submission <strong>of</strong> applications may, therefore, be <strong>of</strong> great advantage<br />

for students planning to enter the <strong>University</strong> in the fall term.<br />

Admission to Freshman Standing<br />

To be admitted to freshman standing in the <strong>University</strong>, a student must be a<br />

graduate <strong>of</strong> a standard or accredited high school and, in addition, meet certain<br />

qualitative educational standards. The qualitative requirements for residents <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Oregon</strong> differ from those for nonresident students:<br />

Resident Students. To be eligible for admission with freshman standing in the<br />

fall term, a student who is a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong> must: (1) have a 2.25 gradepoint<br />

average in all high-school subj ects taken for graduation; or (2) attain a<br />

satisfactory score on the College Entrance Examination Board Scholastic Aptitude<br />

Test; or (3) achieve a GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.00 on a full load <strong>of</strong> studies (at least 9 term<br />

hours) in a regular collegiate summer session, including a course in English<br />

composition and two or more courses from the fields <strong>of</strong> literature, social science,<br />

or science.<br />

To be eligible for admission on the basis <strong>of</strong> high-school grades in the winter<br />

or spring terms, a resident student must have a high-school GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.00.<br />

Nonresident Students. To be eligible for admission with freshman standing,<br />

a student who is not a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oregon</strong> must: (1) have a 2.75 grade-point<br />

average in all high-school subjects taken for graduation; or (2) have a 2.25 highschool<br />

GPA combined with a satisfactory score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test;<br />
