For a standard certificate, granted after five years of college work, the following
standard norm-47 term hours in physical education, including the basicnorm
requirement and an additional 12 term hours in the following areas: kinesiology,
physiology of exercise, evaluation in physical education, and remedial physical
education. The following courses are recommended for the satisfaction of
the additional l2-hour requirement:

Health Education. For a basic certificate, granted after four years of college
work, the following basic norm-42 term hours in health education, including
work in school health service, human anatomy, human physiology, nutrition,
safety and first aid, personal health, community health, family living, communicable
and noncommunicable diseases. The following courses are recommended for the
satisfaction of this requirement:

For a standard certificate, granted after five years of college work, the following
standard norm-51 term hours in health education, including the basicnorm
requirement and an additional 9 term hours in mental health and organization
and administration of health education. The following courses are recommended
for the satisfaction of the additional 9-hour requirement:

Health and Physical Education. The State Department of Education has
also set special norm requirements for positions involving the teaching of both
health and physical education. The requirements for the basic norm are-45 term
hours in health and physical education, including: 24 term hours in human anatomy,
human physiology, health services, principles of physical education, and organization
and administration of health and physical education; 9 term hours in
nutrition, safety and first aid, personal health, community health and sanitation,
family living, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases; and 12 term
hours in physical-education laboratory courses in the following areas: fundamentals
of body movement and mechanics, rhythms, gymnastics, sports (individual,
dual, and team), aquatics, and games, relays, stunts, and self-testing activities.
The requirements for the standard norm are-54 term hours, including the
basic-norm requirement and an additional 9 term hours in kinesiology, physiology
of exercise, remedial physical education, evaluation in health and physical education,
and mental health.
