For a standard certificate, granted after five years <strong>of</strong> college work, the following<br />
standard norm-47 term hours in physical education, including the basicnorm<br />
requirement and an additional 12 term hours in the following areas: kinesiology,<br />
physiology <strong>of</strong> exercise, evaluation in physical education, and remedial physical<br />
education. The following courses are recommended for the satisfaction <strong>of</strong><br />

and noncommunicable diseases. The following courses are recommended for the<br />
satisfaction <strong>of</strong> this requirement:<br />

Health and Physical Education. The State Department <strong>of</strong> Education has<br />
also set special norm requirements for positions involving the teaching <strong>of</strong> both<br />
health and physical education. The requirements for the basic norm are-45 term<br />
hours in health and physical education, including: 24 term hours in human anatomy,<br />
human physiology, health services, principles <strong>of</strong> physical education, and organization<br />
and administration <strong>of</strong> health and physical education; 9 term hours in<br />
nutrition, safety and first aid, personal health, community health and sanitation,<br />
family living, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases; and 12 term<br />
hours in physical-education laboratory courses in the following areas: fundamentals<br />
<strong>of</strong> body movement and mechanics, rhythms, gymnastics, sports (individual,<br />
dual, and team), aquatics, and games, relays, stunts, and self-testing activities.<br />
The requirements for the standard norm are-54 term hours, including the<br />
basic-norm requirement and an additional 9 term hours in kinesiology, physiology<br />
<strong>of</strong> exercise, remedial physical education, evaluation in health and physical education,<br />
and mental health.<br />
