SECTION 28 31 00-FIRE DETECTION AND ALARM<br />

PART 1 - GENERAL<br />

1.1 SUMMARY<br />

A. This performance specification provides the minimum requirements for the Life Safety<br />

System. The work provided shall include, but not limited to furnishing all permits, equipment,<br />

materials, delivery, labor, documentation, testing <strong>and</strong> services necessary to design <strong>and</strong> furnish<br />

<strong>and</strong> install a complete, operational system Fire Alarm System.<br />

B. At the time of bid, all exceptions taken to these Specifications, all variances from these<br />

Specification <strong>and</strong> all substitutions of operating capabilities or equipment called for in these<br />

Specification shall be listed in writing <strong>and</strong> forwarded to the <strong>Design</strong>er. Any such exception,<br />

variances or substitutions that were not listed at the time of bid <strong>and</strong> are identified in the<br />

submittal, shall be grounds for immediate disapproval without comment.<br />

C. The contractor must prepare the appropriate fire alarm system design <strong>and</strong> shall submit all the<br />

required drawings, equipment specifications, riser diagrams, worst case voltage drop<br />

calculations, battery calculations, mounting details <strong>and</strong> equipment to the city of <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong><br />

Fire Department for review <strong>and</strong> obtain the permit under a deferred approval.<br />

D. Contractor is responsible for verifying existing fire alarm devices located within the terminal<br />

<strong>and</strong> providing connection to main fire alarm system for a complete working system.<br />

1.2 REFERENCES<br />

A. All work <strong>and</strong> materials shall conform to all applicable Federal, State <strong>and</strong> local codes <strong>and</strong><br />

regulations governing the installation.<br />

B. Fire alarm system, equipment, installation, <strong>and</strong> wiring materials <strong>and</strong> methods used shall<br />

comply with the following codes <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ards:<br />

1. System components proposed in this specification shall be UL listed for its intended use.<br />

2. California State Fire Marshal Listed Components<br />

3. <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Building Code<br />

4. California Fire Code<br />

5. <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Fire Code<br />

6. California Mechanical Code<br />

7. California Electrical Code<br />

8. NFPA 72 - National Fire Alarm Code®, As amended by CA code<br />

9. NFPA 13 – St<strong>and</strong>ards for the installation of fire sprinkler systems<br />

10. NFPA 14 - St<strong>and</strong>ards for the installation of fire st<strong>and</strong>pipes <strong>and</strong> hose systems<br />

11. NFPA 415 St<strong>and</strong>ards for airport terminal building fueling, ramp drainage <strong>and</strong> loading<br />

walkways, 2008 edition.<br />
