Temporary Light, Power, Water, <strong>and</strong> Telephone<br />

The Contractor shall obtain a permit to draw water from a public fire hydrant from the<br />

<strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Department of Water <strong>and</strong> Power, Telephone (213) 367-6428, for<br />

projects in the City of <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong>. If feasible, permission for the use of hydrants<br />

located on Airport property may be obtained from the Engineer for hydrants owned<br />

<strong>and</strong> controlled by LAWA. Hydrants will be metered <strong>and</strong> the cost of water usage will<br />

be billed to the Contractor.<br />

The Contractor shall obtain temporary power from the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Department of<br />

Water <strong>and</strong> Power, Telephone (213) 367-0364, for projects at <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong><br />

International Airport.<br />

The Contractor may inquire about obtaining temporary telephone service from ATT<br />

at 1-800-750-2355.<br />

Public Convenience <strong>and</strong> Safety<br />

Traffic <strong>and</strong> Access:<br />

A. The Contractor shall conduct all operations in a manner that will cause minimal<br />

or no interference with normal operation of the Airport. In all operations, the<br />

Contractor shall be governed by the regulations <strong>and</strong> rules of LAWA, comply with<br />

FAA AC No. 150/5370-2E, Operational Safety on <strong>Airports</strong> During <strong>Construction</strong>,<br />

Appendix C, <strong>and</strong> shall cooperate fully with LAWA Engineers <strong>and</strong> Airport<br />

Manager. All temporary blockages for the movement of construction materials or<br />

equipment shall be coordinated with <strong>and</strong> approved by LAWA at least forty-eight<br />

(48) working hours in advance of any closure.<br />

B. As soon as possible, <strong>and</strong> before moving vehicles onto the Site, the Contractor<br />

shall submit to LAWA the proposed Plan for vehicular <strong>and</strong> pedestrian traffic<br />

circulation, including the location <strong>and</strong> types of signs to be used. Thereafter, <strong>and</strong><br />

not later than fifteen (15) Days prior to subsequent changes required by the<br />

Engineer for said circulation, sign locations <strong>and</strong> types, the Contractor shall<br />

submit revised Plans to LAWA.<br />

C. The Contractor shall provide <strong>and</strong> install steel plates to bridge any excavation in<br />

the public right-of-way. Such bridging shall be in accordance with the provisions<br />

of the latest edition of the Work Area Traffic Control H<strong>and</strong>book (WATCH), <strong>and</strong> in<br />

addition, shall have a nonskid surface static coefficient of friction of 0.35 per<br />

California Test 342 for all steel plates within the traveled roadway of streets <strong>and</strong><br />

alleys. When required by the Inspector, the Contractor or Applicant shall certify<br />

in writing to the Inspector that steel plates to be used in the Work meet the<br />

required static coefficient of friction. Also when required by the Inspector, the<br />

Contractor or Applicant shall have steel plates to be used in the Work tested in<br />

accordance with the above st<strong>and</strong>ards for the verification of required static<br />

coefficients of friction. Testing shall be done by an independent laboratory<br />

approved by the Inspector. The Contractor or Applicant shall pay for any costs<br />

associated with the testing of steel plates.<br />
