The book “A Vision of Life” was conceived as an analysis - of the highest
importance - of the real life of unborn children in Romania. This area has been
darkened by myths, created by the press especially. The mass media have limited the
spreading and sharing of pro-life views, which many people may have. It drew
attention only to the breathtaking aspects of the problem, always speaking the same
language as pro-abortion organisations, which promote a hedonistic way of life, by
using abortifacient contraception.
The most innocent humans in Romania have suffered, particularly since 1989.
That is why, in order to illuminate the situation, the authors have tried to build a
proper understanding of life, and in favour of life.
The first chapter, “Life in the womb”, describes the life of the unborn baby. The
authors present several fundamental arguments supporting the unborn child’s
humanity. The main idea is that human life is continuous from natural conception
and must be respected.
The modern inclination in favour of death, which starts from ignorance and lack
of consideration towards life, is emphasized. The contemporary trivialization of
abortion represents a sign of the culture of death.
The authors base their arguments for the humanity of the unborn child on many
facts offered by medicine, and by science in general. The tragedy of abortion is
emphasized by the sensitivity of the unborn baby. Each phase of pregnancy is
described, with arguments by loving and believing scientists. Such knowledge of life
in the womb is needed by young and old alike, to strengthen family responsibility.
The link between the mother’s and child’s health is shown, specifying the
factors that can endanger the life of the unborn baby. Romanian doctors show that
many pregnant women in Romania have anaemia and consequently their children
have rickets. Also, the risks of alcohol and smoking during pregnancy were shown.
The attitude about premature birth needs to change in Romania, taking into account
the progress on the international level. Although premature births do not exceed an
average of 10% of all births, it is obvious that the number of deaths from this
category is very high (70%, i.e. 3,059 in 2000).
“Problems of abortion” reflects the detail of abortion (the second chapter).
Officially, the number of abortions decreased since 1993, from nearly one million
abortions to almost 260.000 in 2000. At the beginning of the ‘90s, three abortions
for each live birth were registered; in 1998, the ratio was 1:1.1. However, according
to a Ministry of Health official, many private units do not report all abortions
