Those parts of the conservation area along
the lakeshore classified positively expand
the lake-oriented settlements by an area
characterized by moorings and historical
bank reinforcements. The few reedy
marshes still preserved and equally characterized
by historical moorings also belong
to this group of areas of historical
value.
The conservation area on both sides of the
tree-lined road to Niederzell is of special
significance because here Niederzell’s historical
situation as an island is clearly discernible.
Eventually some free spaces and agricultural
areas were added to the areas of high
representativity in terms of geo-cultural
history. Although they are not classed as
an archeological reserve, settlement or
conservation area, their appearance exhibits
historical structures and harmoniously
interconnects with the surrounding
positively classed areas.
Significant uninhabited areas are situated
in Mittelzell between the conservation
area at the shore and the premises of the
former monastery, which, cartographically
verifiable since 1707, permit an unobstructed
view of the monastery precincts.
Areas to mention certainly are the plots
east and west of the monastery used for
agricultural purposes. Equally of a high
representative value in terms of history
are the free spaces of the Ergat and upper
Ergat. All through history both their outlines
remained unchanged in structure
since early 18 th century.
In Niederzell and Oberzell major areas
used for agricultural purposes are situated
off the collegiate churches. Since centuries
these areas permit an unobstructed view
of the churches. In conjunction with the
surrounding positively classed areas (settlement
areas, archeological reserves, conservation
areas) they form major units of a
high representativity in terms of history.
