Renaturation of Shorelines
In this field the state of Baden-Württemberg, represented by the
Wasserdirektion Rottweil (higher authority in charge of the
waterways), in collaboration with Landratsamt (District
Administration) and the municipality of Reichenau has begun to
renaturate the island’s shoreline This means that in places which
seem appropriate, wall structures are demolished and the
corresponding sections of the shoreline are given their natural shape
and appearance again (they are renatured).
Program for the Growing of Tall Fruit Trees
This program was established in 2000 by the municipality. It is
meant to encourage land owners to plant tall growing fruit trees. The
municipality will take on the purchase of the trees.
Conservation of Reeds by Municipality and Fishing Association
In experimentation areas research is done on the possibilities of reed
conservation. The municipality is in charge of an open space area of
about 1 hectare.
Other Ecological Planning
Stock-taking and development of concepts in the fields of animal
species and habitat conservation in the area of “Göldern” adjacent to
the Wollmatinger Ried (establishment of an “ecological account”).
Open Space Conservation
Ecological concept in the context of the conservation of the public
green spaces: mowing only twice a year and preservation of the
street planting.
Homogeneous Ensemble, § 19 DSchG (Law on the Protection of
Cultural Monuments)
It is intended to apply this statute in particular to the area around
Mittelzell in collaboration with the Landesdenkmalamt Außenstelle
Freiburg (State Administration for the Protection of Historic
Monuments, Branch Freiburg). The statute requires official approval
for all actions even on buildings that are not classed cultural
monuments. Changes in the conserved overall appearance of the
ensemble require approval by the authority in charge of the
protection of cultural monuments. The protection not only applies to
the buildings alone but also extends to the plots of land kept clear of
settlement like streets, squares and open spaces.
