Law on the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Baden-
Württemberg
All building projects or changes in cultural monuments must
first be approved by the authority in charge, if the project
may diminish the appearance of the cultural monument
concerned. (see § 8 DSchG).
Cultural monuments of outstanding value have the benefit
of additional protection by inclusion in the Denkmalbuch
(Book of Monuments). Any changes in appearance or substance
must first be approved by the authority in charge of
the protection of monuments. Also, approval has to be sought
for projects in the environs of a registered cultural monument
if the environs are judged to be of substantial value
to the monument. (see § 15 DSchG)
The lower authority in charge of the protection of monuments
within the boundaries of the municipality of Reichenau
is the District Administration of Constance as the
lower authority on planning laws and building regulations.
It takes its decisions in agreement with the State Administration
for the Protection of Historic Monuments Baden-
Württemberg, Branch Freiburg.
Regarding property owned by the State of Baden-Württemberg
decisions are taken by the Regierungspräsidium
Freiburg (higher authority in charge of a series of districts)
as the higher authority in charge of the protection of monuments
in agreement with the Federal Land Holding Administration.
