Buffer Zone Wollmatinger Ried
Since 1968 the Wollmatinger Ried holds the European Diploma of
the Council of Europe. 1973 the area was declared European Nature
Reserve by the International Council for the Protection of Birds, and
since 1976 the reed landscape with its adjacent lake bays counts
among the wet areas of international rank according to the Ramsar
Convention of 1971. This grants special preservation of the
Wollmatinger Ried (see enclosure 1).
Maintenance and Restoration
The Staatliche Vermögens- und Bauamt (Federal Office of Estates
and Construction) at Konstanz is in charge of the maintenance and
restoration of the Mittelzell Minster and the vicarage part of the
former convent. For the years 2000-2005 a laser scan of the choir, a
cleansing of the Gothic choir and the organ, a photogrammetry of the
choir façade and a repair (stone renovation) of the choir and treasury
façades is planned. The investment volume mounts up to around 3.7
million DEM. An extensive wall renovation of the castle ruin of
Schopfeln is also planned.
The municipality of Reichenau plans the restoration of former
monastic structures and the office building at Mittelzell from the
point of view of the conservation of cultural monuments. The
buildings are planned to be adapted into an old people’s home. The
investment sums up to around 3 million DEM. In addition the
renovation of the outdoor facilities in the monastery yard is planned,
an investment of a further 1 million DEM.
The Archiepiscopal Office of Construction plans to spend
300,000.00 DEM on measures of renovation on the outside and
inside of St. Peter’s and Paul’s at Niederzell.
