Eine legendäre Drag-King-Nacht in New York ist Ausgangspunkt
einer Reise durch Welten jenseits der Geschlechtergrenzen,
in denen Frauen zu Männern werden
– die einen für eine Nacht, die anderen für ihr
ganzes Leben. Was bewegt sie, was verändert sich,
wovon träumen sie? Die New Yorker »Drag Kings«
treten in Clubs auf und verwandeln sich lustvoll in
ihre männlichen Alter Egos, parodieren sie, erkunden
männliche Erotik und Machtstrategien. Frauen in London
experimentieren mit Hormonen und werden zu
neuen Männern und Cyborgs. Männlichkeit und deren
Transformation als Performance, Subversion oder
existenzielle Notwendigkeit. Ein intimer Film über
Menschen, die zwischengeschlechtliche Identitäten
kreieren.
A legendary Drag King Night in New York is the point
of departure for an odyssey to transgendered worlds,
where women become men – some for a night, others
for their whole lives. What motivates them? What
changes take place? What do they dream of?
The drag kings of New York meet in clubs and change
lustfully into their male alter egos, parodying them
and exploring male eroticism and power strategies. In
London we see women experiment with hormones to
become new men and cyborgs. Masculinity and tranformation
as performance, subversion or existential
necessity. An intimate film about people who create
intermediate sexual identities.
»It took Gabriel Baur five years to make Venus Boyz,
her doc about the drag king movement. But it was
worth the wait. (…) Many of the women portrayed in
the film say that performing as men permanently
changed their lives. Watching the film may provide
a similar experience.« Marcy Goldberg
