experience is that in. more than fifty per cent, <strong>of</strong> cases<br />

<strong>the</strong> I A* does not appear. <strong>The</strong> same is true <strong>of</strong> M.<br />

i. 210.<br />

Before leaving <strong>the</strong>se triobols a small point may be<br />

noticed which, such as it is, supports <strong>the</strong> general chro-<br />

nology <strong>of</strong> magistrates here advanced. "We have noticed<br />

that <strong>the</strong> ethnic does not appear on <strong>the</strong> reverse in <strong>the</strong><br />

drachm series till <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> XAIPIO3 <strong>and</strong> HOA IAN-<br />

GEY*. Now on <strong>the</strong> triobols <strong>of</strong> IASONOS, both ethnic<br />

<strong>and</strong> signature appear on <strong>the</strong> obverse, while under<br />

XAIPIOS <strong>and</strong> DOAIANGEYS, though <strong>the</strong> signature<br />

remains on <strong>the</strong> obverse, <strong>the</strong> ethnic has gone round to<br />

<strong>the</strong> reverse exactly as on <strong>the</strong> drachms.<br />

Mention has been made above <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> magistrates<br />

here for <strong>the</strong> first time, it may be well to publish <strong>the</strong><br />

two staters on which <strong>the</strong>se readings are based.<br />

70. Obv. Similar, but <strong>the</strong> star has a central disk, <strong>and</strong><br />

No. 69 is very puzzling. <strong>The</strong> reverse inscription<br />

is absolutely certain. <strong>The</strong> way it is<br />

that <strong>the</strong> G must be an integral part<br />

written shows<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> name;<br />

besides, on <strong>the</strong>se staters we never find anything in
