266 E. S. G. KOBINSON.<br />

<strong>The</strong> heads on Nos. 91-6 are distinctly later than those<br />

on <strong>the</strong> corresponding little pieces <strong>of</strong> flOAIANGEY^.<br />

If continuity <strong>of</strong> type goes for anything, we should<br />

expect Nos. 91 <strong>and</strong> 92, which show a head on both<br />

sides like <strong>the</strong> corresponding pieces <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> previous<br />

period, to precede Nos. 93-6, on which new types<br />

appear. That No. 91, like <strong>the</strong> earliest silver <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

period, bears no magistrate's name or symbol, reinforces<br />

<strong>the</strong> suggestion. No. 92 with E 1 would <strong>the</strong>n come near<br />

<strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> period, as a consideration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

silver didrachms with <strong>the</strong> same monogram has already<br />

led us to think likely. 174 <strong>The</strong> two stars <strong>of</strong> No. 93 <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> star <strong>and</strong> C <strong>of</strong> No. 96 occur on a corresponding<br />

silver series (M. i. 153-4 <strong>and</strong> 156-9), <strong>the</strong> plough <strong>of</strong><br />

No. 94 on <strong>the</strong> copper series (No. 112, below). No. 97 by<br />

its types st<strong>and</strong>s apart from <strong>the</strong> rest; <strong>the</strong> absence <strong>of</strong><br />

magistrate's name or symbol <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> type <strong>of</strong> silphium<br />

suggest a very early date in <strong>the</strong> period.<br />

One gold coin remains :<br />

Paris. N. 0-75. Wt. 110-5 grs. (Published by Babe-<br />

Ion in Rev. Num., 1885, p. 399, PI. xv. 7.)<br />

No. 98, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> usual types <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cyrenaean gold<br />

staters, is <strong>of</strong> a different weight <strong>and</strong> a later style. In<br />

style it is most nearly related to <strong>the</strong> latest coin <strong>of</strong><br />

nOAIANGEYS (No. 71, above), though <strong>the</strong>re is still<br />

some gap between. <strong>The</strong> head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nike looks r.,<br />

instead <strong>of</strong> to front, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> treatment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> horse<br />
