<strong>The</strong> l<br />

Ep{ji6(f)avros,<br />

whose name is found on one <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>se tetradrachms, may have been one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chian<br />

generals to whom statues were erected at Delphi after<br />

<strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Aegospotami. <strong>The</strong> characteristically Ionic<br />

names Eopvvonos, 'Hpayoprjs, <strong>and</strong> 'Iinrt^s may be noted,<br />

as none <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m in this Ionic form occurs in ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Pape's, or Fick <strong>and</strong> Bechtel's works. <strong>The</strong>re is no change<br />

<strong>The</strong> coins from Berlin with <strong>the</strong> names Baa-iXeLdrjs<br />

<strong>and</strong> ^Epp<strong>of</strong>yavTos are from <strong>the</strong> same obverse die, which<br />

die is <strong>of</strong> quite a different type from that used for<br />

Museum [PI. XIX. 6]. <strong>The</strong> Sphinx on <strong>the</strong> coin with<br />

QoTvig [PL XIX. 7] is <strong>of</strong> a special type, to which<br />

attention has already been drawn in <strong>the</strong> cases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

coins illustrated PL XVIII. 16 <strong>and</strong> PL XVIII. 21, 69<br />

<strong>and</strong> which will be met with again in <strong>the</strong> drachms<br />

This is only one more<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> next series [PL XIX. 8].<br />

68 From now onwards it will no longer be necessary to divide <strong>the</strong><br />

coins into so many different types as heret<strong>of</strong>ore, in view <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> broader distinctions rendered possible by grouping a certain<br />

number <strong>of</strong> magistrates' names under a given type. <strong>The</strong> minor<br />

variations need <strong>the</strong>n only be referred to as above.<br />
