<strong>The</strong> real amount aimed at is shown by <strong>the</strong> average<br />

weight, which in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> a large number <strong>of</strong> siliquae<br />

weighed is seen to hover about 2 grammes.<br />

But apart from <strong>the</strong> coins <strong>of</strong> ordinary siliqua type<br />

<strong>the</strong>re occurred in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> abnormally low weight<br />

present hoard a small series <strong>of</strong> silver pieces, several <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>m <strong>of</strong> types distinct from those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> siliquae, <strong>and</strong><br />

all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se were below a weight limit to which <strong>the</strong><br />

latter only exceptionally descended.<br />

<strong>The</strong> principal reverse types <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se diminutive<br />

silver pieces are as follows :<br />

A. VICTORIA AVCCC Victory<br />

holding palm <strong>and</strong> wreath.<br />

marching left <strong>and</strong><br />

1. Gratian. (Olv. DN CRATIANVS PF AVG : draped<br />

bust to r.) In ex. <strong>of</strong> reverse R B (Kome).<br />
