404: J. MAVKOGORDATO.<br />

will be seen to be almost exactly <strong>the</strong> same as that <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> latest tetradrachms. No specimen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> later<br />

class occurred in <strong>the</strong> Pityos find mentioned above, but,<br />

as two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> small coins with names common to both<br />

series did so occur, we are justified in including <strong>the</strong>se<br />

large bronze pieces in <strong>the</strong> present period. O<strong>the</strong>rwise<br />

it might have been preferable to assign <strong>the</strong>m to a date<br />

after <strong>the</strong> Macedonian occupation.<br />

<strong>The</strong> style <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> small coins is even better than that<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> large, as would be expected, <strong>the</strong> preservation <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> bunch <strong>of</strong> grapes <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> incuse circle on certain<br />

issues fully bearing out <strong>the</strong> suggestion that <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

<strong>the</strong> first to be struck. In <strong>the</strong>m, as will be seen, we<br />

meet with four names already noted on tetradrachms<br />

or drachms, <strong>and</strong> it seems fair to assume that <strong>the</strong> same<br />

magistrate is represented.<br />

<strong>The</strong> dies <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong>se bronze coins seem to have been<br />

fixed, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir positions are given accordingly in <strong>the</strong><br />

following descriptions by means <strong>of</strong> tt-<br />

<strong>The</strong> tetradrachms, drachms, <strong>and</strong> bronze coins assigned<br />
