Alex<strong>and</strong>er types struck in Cyprus. He conclusively showed<br />

that a series <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se coins was struck at Kition <strong>and</strong> Salamis<br />

<strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs at Paphos <strong>and</strong> Marion. Mr. NewelTs paper,<br />

which is a model <strong>of</strong> <strong>numismatic</strong> method, involved <strong>the</strong> exami-<br />

nation <strong>of</strong> thous<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong> specimens, including <strong>the</strong> great Daman-<br />

hur hoard, <strong>and</strong> exhaustive references to all <strong>the</strong> chief cabinets,<br />

public <strong>and</strong> private.<br />

<strong>The</strong> value <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> record <strong>of</strong> local finds in fixing <strong>the</strong> attribu-<br />

tion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> bronze coinages<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greek cities has been<br />

greatly illustrated in recent years by <strong>the</strong> results obtained by<br />

British travellers <strong>and</strong> archaeological explorers in Asia Minor,<br />

<strong>and</strong> in particular by <strong>the</strong> researches <strong>of</strong> Sir William M. Kamsay<br />

<strong>the</strong> Panjab Government <strong>and</strong> issued at Oxford by <strong>the</strong> Clarendon<br />

Press. <strong>The</strong> first volume <strong>of</strong> this work, dealing with Indo-<br />

Greek coins, greatly supplements our knowledge <strong>of</strong> this<br />

interesting department <strong>of</strong> <strong>numismatic</strong>s. It is modelled on<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Gardner's Catalogue <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Coins <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greek <strong>and</strong><br />

Scythic Kings <strong>of</strong> Bactria <strong>and</strong> India in <strong>the</strong> British Museum<br />

published in 1886, but, during <strong>the</strong> generation that has since<br />

elapsed, <strong>the</strong> Museum <strong>of</strong> Lahore largely owing to Mr. White-<br />

head's exertions <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> liberal purchase by <strong>the</strong> Panjab<br />

Government <strong>of</strong> Mr. G. B. Bleazby's rich collection has<br />

accumulated a mass <strong>of</strong> new <strong>and</strong> interesting materials.<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> fine coins <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greek Kings <strong>of</strong> India are two
