recognize <strong>the</strong> usurper as a colleague, <strong>the</strong> solidus in<br />

question may have been struck in Maximus's lifetime.<br />

That Magnus Maximus, who made Britain <strong>the</strong> start-<br />

ing-point for his Continental enterprise, should have<br />

struck coins at <strong>the</strong> London mint was natural enough.<br />
