Mr. L. A. Lawrence, F.S.A., exhibited a series <strong>of</strong> counters<br />

engraved in <strong>the</strong> manner <strong>of</strong> Simon de Passe with types<br />

representing London cries.<br />

Miss Helen Farquhar exhibited a fine series <strong>of</strong> medals<br />

illustrating Mr. Hill's paper.<br />

Mr. F. A. Walters, F.S.A., showed a first brass <strong>of</strong> Cara-<br />

calla with rev. Circus Maximus, <strong>and</strong> a medal <strong>of</strong> Philip II <strong>of</strong><br />

Spain by Poggini.<br />

Mr. G. F. Hill read a paper on an unpublished silver<br />

plaque by Simon van de Passe, with <strong>the</strong> portrait <strong>and</strong> coat<br />

<strong>of</strong> arms <strong>of</strong> an unknown man, probably an Englishman. He<br />

took <strong>the</strong> opportunity <strong>of</strong> discussing <strong>the</strong> method used by Passe<br />

for making <strong>the</strong>se plaques, showed <strong>the</strong> impossibility <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

assumption that <strong>the</strong>y were stamped from dies, <strong>and</strong> argued<br />

in favour <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir being separately engraved. <strong>The</strong> differences<br />

in detail <strong>and</strong> in quality <strong>of</strong> engraving between different speci-<br />

mens <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same plaque (notably <strong>the</strong> bare-headed portrait<br />

<strong>of</strong> James I) were pointed out. (This paper is printed in this<br />

approved.<br />

M. Georges Kasquin was elected a Fellow <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> following Presents to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Society</strong> were announced <strong>and</strong><br />

laid upon <strong>the</strong> table, <strong>and</strong> thanks ordered to be sent to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

donors.<br />
