Among <strong>the</strong> later coins <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hoard those <strong>of</strong> Eugenius,<br />

who usurped in <strong>the</strong> West A. D. 392-4, are well represented.<br />

Seven pieces celebrate <strong>the</strong> Decennalia <strong>of</strong><br />

Arcadius, which were due on Jan. 15, 393. Of Hono-<br />

rius, who was made Augustus on Jan. 10 <strong>of</strong> that year,<br />

<strong>the</strong>re are only twelve coins, but ten <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se from <strong>the</strong><br />

Milan mint celebrate his Quinquennalia, which would<br />

have taken place on Jan. 9, 397. <strong>The</strong>re is evidence<br />

that at this period <strong>the</strong>se celebrations took place with<br />

strict punctuality. 5 On <strong>the</strong> whole, <strong>the</strong>refore, we may<br />

safely conclude that <strong>the</strong> present hoard was deposited<br />

in <strong>the</strong> last years <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fourth century.<br />

<strong>The</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> coins according to mints, as<br />

far as <strong>the</strong>y can be attributed, is as follows :<br />

It will be seen that over half <strong>the</strong> coins belong to <strong>the</strong><br />

Treves mint, while, longo intervallo, Aries <strong>and</strong> Lyons<br />

take <strong>the</strong> second <strong>and</strong> third place. <strong>The</strong> three Italian<br />

Those showing CON <strong>and</strong> CONST in various combinations are<br />

given to Aries (Constantina). <strong>The</strong> coin <strong>of</strong> Valens (No. 45) with<br />

CONCM is enigmatic.
