Application procedure<br />

In addition to the information given below applicants<br />

should refer to 'Application ~rocedure' in the general<br />

section of the <strong>Handbook</strong>.<br />

Applications for admission to undergraduate or postgraduate<br />

programs in <strong>1996</strong>, at Hawthorn, Prahran or Mooroolbark/<br />

Lil~dale campus, should be made on the appropriate<br />

application form, obtained and lodged as follows:<br />

Prahran campus.<br />

Overseas students must in the first instance contact the<br />

International Student Unit.<br />

only as full-time, or only as part-time.<br />

Alternative Category Entry*<br />

The <strong>Swinburne</strong> Alternative Category Entry program<br />

enables applicants with no VCE or equivalent qualification<br />

to be considered for acceptance into undergraduate courses.<br />

The categories are:<br />

Age and <strong>Education</strong><br />

There are no age restrictions. This category is for applicants<br />

with no VCE or equivalent. Selection is based on the<br />

personal history provided with the application for all<br />

courses except Business which requires applicants to sit the<br />

Special Admissions Tests administered by VTAC for the<br />

Australian Council for <strong>Education</strong>al Research.<br />

Continuing difficulties during schooling<br />

Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders<br />

Applicants in these categories may provide additional<br />

information with their application form and contact the<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> Equity Unit for further assistance. Applicants<br />

who have passed VCE may also provide additional<br />

information with their applications.<br />

In all cases, applicants for courses offmd by Enginem'ng and<br />

Science must have passed the course prerequisites.<br />

Admission with Advanced<br />

Standina "<br />

A student who has successfully completed, or partly<br />

completed, an acceptable post-secondary program may be<br />

admitted with advanced standing to Science and Engineering<br />

and Design programs at <strong>Swinburne</strong>. Admission with<br />

advanced standing is granted by the Divisional Board and<br />

applicants are informed in writing of the Board's decisions.<br />

Until this letter is received applicants should not assume<br />

approval of any application for admission with advanced<br />

standing.<br />

The policy of the Divisional Board with regard to admission<br />

with advanced standing is set out in the following<br />

regulations:<br />

1. General<br />

1.1 The Board will take into account the following<br />

when considering applications for admission with<br />

advanced standing:<br />

(a) a student should be brought on to a standard<br />

program as soon as possible after entry into the<br />

<strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> sector of the University.
