Ethel Caf<br />

The Ethel Caf is the largest cafeteria on campus, located on<br />

the third floor of the Union Building adjacent to the<br />

Greenhouse Bar/Bistro. The Amusement Centre, offering<br />

pool tables, video games and pinball machines, is situated<br />

here and the food servery offering a range of fast foods<br />

opens daily between 10.00am and 3.00pm to service<br />

players. This caf offers a large space for student clubs to<br />

run special activities and seats about 250 people.<br />

Greenhouse Bar/Bistro<br />

The Greenhouse is the place to be seen on campus. Enjoy a<br />

wine or beer with your meal, or relax with friends over a<br />

delicious cappuccino and cake. The Greenhouse is located<br />

on the third floor of the Union Building. The bar offers<br />

Victorian and boutique bottled beers, a large selection of<br />

spirits and cocktails and wines from the Yarra Valley. For<br />

8 diners who like to eat and drink in the fresh air, the<br />

g outdoor terrace offers a garden retreat. Our Student Union<br />

Functions Department caters for weddings, twenty-firsts<br />

g and other social events in the Greenhouse for both<br />

Corner Caf<br />

Located on the corner of John and Wakefield streets, this<br />

extremely popular cafeteria provides an upmarket range of<br />

salads, gourmet sandwiches and snacks at a reasonable<br />

price. The Corner Caf has a clean and pleasant<br />

environment and is convenient to both University and<br />

TAFE students and staff.<br />

Functions Department<br />

If you are having a wedding, 21st, graduation party or<br />

maybe just a meeting, this department can offer clubs,<br />

students and staff a wide range of catering from buffets and<br />

sit-down meals, to light luncheons, afternoon teas, cocktail<br />

parties and BBQs. The Functions Supervisor can advise<br />

you on menus and quantities. Please remember we do need<br />

two working days notice for refreshments and five working<br />

days for larger functions.<br />

Publications<br />

The Student Union publishes a weekly newspaper called<br />

The Swine, which primarily carries news and information<br />

pertaining to students and <strong>Swinburne</strong>. It provides a forum<br />

for students and staff to present and discuss their views on<br />

relevant matters. During holidays and non-teaching<br />

periods, a smaller publication called Piglet keeps the flow<br />

of information going.<br />

The Student Union also produces a free diary, Orientation<br />

<strong>Handbook</strong> and year planner which are available from<br />

Union Services Desk on each campus and at re-enrolment.<br />

Student Publications<br />

The Student Union also provides facilities for students to<br />

publish a magazine called Tabukz Rasa at least once per<br />

semester. Tabukz Rasa provides a medium for students to<br />

develop their publication skills and all students are<br />

welcome to contribute graphics, articles and creative<br />

writing. If you would like to participate, contact the<br />

Student Union media director or come to the Media Office.<br />

Student Union Computer Centre<br />

The Computer Centre offers access to a number of MS<br />

Windows PC workstations at both Hawthorn and Prahran.<br />

Popular word processing, spreadsheet and DTP packages<br />

are available.<br />

Laser Printing<br />

Users of the Computer Centre workstations have access to<br />

networked laser printers at low per-page rates.<br />

R6sumQ Typing<br />

The Computer Centre offers a professional rCsum.6 service<br />

to word process, print and bind r6sumCs for students at<br />

reasonable cost.<br />

Binding Service<br />

A thermal glue binding service is available at Hawthorn<br />

and Mooroolbark at a reasonable cost. The covers are A4<br />

with a clear acetate cover.<br />

Mooroolbark campus<br />

Student Union facilities at the Mooroolbark campus<br />

include a Student Union Services Desk which is staffed<br />

between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm, to provide students with an<br />

information outlet. educational assistance. advice and<br />

referral, bookshop facilities, regular activities, access to<br />

print media through a weekly newspaper and membership<br />

and formation of educational clubs. The Student Union<br />

also offers a student meeting room and a student lounge<br />

with a pool table, access to CD player and reading material.
