NOW Master of Arts in Korean<br />

The course incorporates advanced language coursework<br />

and research components. The research topic can pertain to<br />

any area related to Korea, provided that a suitably qualified<br />

supervisor is available. It is offered as a full-time or aparttime<br />

program.<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Korean with<br />

credit or above results in the third year Korean<br />

language subjects and overall high performance level in<br />

other disciplines.<br />

Honours (Korean) with H2A or higher results.<br />

Graduate Diploma in Korean with credit or above<br />

results in all subjects.<br />

Course structure<br />

Bachelor of Arts graduates<br />

Part I<br />

Six hours per week of advanced language coursework<br />

over two semesters. Four semester subjects of the<br />

existing Graduate Diploma in Korean. Alternatively a<br />

corresponding period of language study might be<br />

undertaken at an approved tertiary institution in<br />

Korea.<br />

The 'Philosophy of Inquiry' component of the<br />

honours cultural studies seminar.<br />

Thesis: 15 000-20 000 words.<br />

The above program is the same as the Korean honours year<br />

program.<br />

Part 11<br />

Six hours per week of advanced language coursework<br />

over two semesters. (The remaining four subjects of the<br />

Graduate Diploma in Korean.)<br />

Minimum one linguistics subject relevant to the topic<br />

of the thesis to be taken on a complementary study<br />

basis at another tertiary institution (for students<br />

undertaking research in linguistic aspects of the<br />

language).<br />

Minor thesis to be written in English with a substantial<br />

summary in Korean.<br />

Thesis length: 15 000-20 000 words.<br />

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (Korean) graduates<br />

Six hours per week advanced language study over two<br />

semesters. Four semester subjects (not taken in the<br />

honours year) of existing Graduate Diploma in Korean.<br />

Alternatively a corresponding period of language study<br />

might be undertaken at an approved tertiary institution<br />

in Korea.<br />

Minimum one linguistics subject relevant to the topic<br />

of the thesis to be taken on a complementary study<br />

basis at another tertiary institution. (For students<br />

undertaking research in linguistic aspects of the<br />
