Postgraduate awards<br />

The Commonwealth<br />

Department of <strong>Education</strong><br />

provides awards for full-time<br />

research leading to the degree<br />

of Master. The closing date for<br />

applications is 3 1 October in<br />

any year.<br />

Some industrial organisations also make available awards<br />

for full-time research leading to the degree of Master.<br />

Further information may be obtained from the Head of<br />

each engineering school.<br />

Professional recognition of courses<br />

The Institution of Engineers, Australia<br />

The courses for degree of Bachelor of Engineering, in civil,<br />

electrical power and control, communication and electronic,<br />

computer systems, manufacturing, and mechanical<br />

engineering, have all received recognition by The Institution<br />

of Engineers, Australia, as satisfying academic requirements<br />

for corporate membership.<br />

Students who are enrolled for engineering courses at<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> and are at least seventeen years of age may apply<br />

to the Institution of Engineers, Australia, to become student<br />

members. Application forms are available from engineering<br />

school offices and the Divisional office.<br />

Other professional bodies<br />

The course for the Bachelor of Engineering (Manufacturing)<br />

is recognised by the Institution of Production Engineers and<br />

the degree in electrical engineering is recognised by the<br />

Institution of Radio and Electronics Engineers (Australia) as<br />

sufficient academic qualification for membership.
