Employment opportunities<br />

The type of work that graduates may be involved in<br />

includes:<br />

liaising between user areas and the computer<br />

department (business analyst)<br />

analysing and designing information systems;<br />

programming;<br />

evaluating software and hardware;<br />

coordinating computer projects;<br />

administering a computer function within an<br />

or~anisation;<br />

marketing support for software and hardware<br />

suppliers;<br />

education and training in information technology in<br />

schools, the computer industry or the public<br />

sector.<br />

Course structure<br />

The course structure will require successful completion of<br />

eight subjects which may be selected (subject to<br />

prerequisite requirements) from the list below, provided at<br />

least four are of level three status.<br />

Entrance reauirements<br />

Entry is open to graduates who have a degree, diploma or<br />

equivalent in any discipline from a recognised university or<br />

other institution.<br />

In addition, a small number of places are available to<br />

applicants without tertiary qualifications but who have<br />

substantial business experience.<br />

Standards of progress<br />

A sub-committee reviews the results of any candidate who<br />

fails to reach a satisfactory standard of progress. The<br />

decision rests with this committee as to whether the<br />

candidate is to be allowed to continue the course.<br />

Preclusions<br />

Candidates may be precluded from attempting a subject in<br />

the unlikely event that they have recently passed an<br />

equivalent subject elsewhere. In such instances candidates<br />

may select an elective subject after consultation with<br />

appropriate staff members.<br />

Progression to the Master of<br />

Information Technology<br />

Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in<br />

Business Information Technology may progress to the<br />

Master of Information Technology program. Progression<br />

is not automatic and students would normally be expected<br />

to have attained an average of at least credit throughout<br />

their studies.<br />

Fees<br />

Full-time is a HECS paying course. Part-time is a full-fee<br />

paying course.<br />

~082 Graduate Diploma in<br />

Entrepreneurship and Innovation<br />

Program objectives<br />

The first four subjects of this program have already been<br />

outlined under the Graduate Certificate of Enterprise<br />

Management. The next four subjects, required for the<br />

award of a Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship and<br />

Innovation, extend the capability of commercial feasibility<br />

assessment to encompass the further skills required for<br />

production of a full-scale, multi-disciplinary, new venture<br />

business plan.<br />

This program has been developed for people who intend to<br />

start new, innovative businesses or to play a leading role in<br />

an innovative unit of an established organisation. The core<br />

of the program provides the theoretical and practical skills<br />

required to a comprehensive business plan<br />

integrating marketing, organisational behaviour and<br />

financial planning via a flexible corporate strategy into a<br />

business plan capable of attracting the risk capital equity<br />

investors - venture capitalists and others. This program<br />

provides professional capabilities not only to potential<br />

entrepreneurs, but also to 'entrepreneurial professionals'
