Limited off-street parking facilities are ~rovided for fulltime<br />

and part-time students.<br />

Conditions of use<br />

Use of car parks is strictly at the owner's risk and is subject<br />

to:<br />

a current <strong>Swinburne</strong> parking permit or sticker valid<br />

for the car park in question being clearly displayed on<br />

the windscreen;<br />

availability of space in the car park;<br />

the car being within a marked bay;<br />

any fees or charges being paid;<br />

Parking permits<br />

P Available from Facilities and Services. Student identity<br />

card is required.<br />

Part-time students<br />

Evening and other part-time students may not leave cars in<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> car parks during the day while they attend<br />

work.<br />

Short course students<br />

Students require a parking permit issued by the office<br />

organising the course. Availability of space is not assured.<br />

Hours of access<br />

The main car parks open at 7.45am and close at 10.00pm.<br />

Car parks on some campuses are open twenty-four hours.<br />

Students are warned against leaving cars in parks<br />

overnight.<br />

Infringement of parking rules<br />

Failure to comply with parking regulations could incur a<br />

Parking Infringement Notice of up to $40.00. Under the<br />

Road Safety Act 1986, the fines are enforceable in court.<br />

Those who abuse the system are also liable to have their<br />

parking privileges withdrawn and the parking permits for<br />

their cars revoked.<br />

Students with disabilities<br />

Consideration is given to the provision of reserved spaces<br />

for students with physical disabilities. Enquiries should be<br />

directed to the Equity Unit, Hawthorn 9214 8855 and<br />

Prahran 9214 6743.<br />

Motorcycles and bicycles<br />

Campus motorcycle parking and bicycle rack locations can<br />

be obtained from Facilities and Services at each campus.<br />

Car pooling<br />

Consideration is given to the provision of reserved spaces<br />

for students car pooling at Hawthorn campus.<br />

Location of car parks<br />

On-campus parking areas are indicated on the campus<br />

maps in this <strong>Handbook</strong> and on the reverse of ~arking<br />

applications and permits.<br />

Possible changes<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> is developing a new University-wide parking<br />

policy for staff and students on all campuses and all the<br />

above parking regulations are subject to change.<br />

Development<br />

Learning and <strong>Education</strong>al Development services comprise<br />

a range of academic support activities to enhance learning<br />

and teaching experiences of students and staff. Services are<br />

provided within an educational psychology framework and<br />

educational research supports the broad range of<br />

consultancy and programs.<br />

Services for students include:<br />

learning enhancement programs within academic<br />

courses;<br />

learning skill development workshops;<br />

individual learning counselling and programs;<br />

psycho-educational assessment;<br />

tertiary transition and learning workshops;<br />

tutor training.<br />

Services for staff include:<br />

professional development programs;<br />

teaching and learning enhancement seminars;<br />

educational research and grant submission advice;<br />

consultancy services for course evaluation and<br />

development;<br />

individual counselling re TAFE and tertiary teaching;<br />

teaching induction programs.<br />

Career Planning and Industry<br />

Liaison<br />

Careers offers a range of services to assist with choice of a<br />

career, assessing interests and abilities, investigating<br />

employment options, improving job hunting skills, and<br />

establishing contact with potential employers.
