Objectives and Content<br />

The objective if this subject is to continue to develop skills<br />

in written and spoken Vietnamese. The focus is on<br />

communicative active oral and written communication in a<br />

wide range of contexts. Topics covered include areas directly<br />

relevant to the country of Vietnam such as history,<br />

geography, trade and tourism.<br />

Students read and analyse texts to introduce new structures<br />

and vocabulary.In the listening and speaking sections<br />

training is provided in correct usage of vocabulary and<br />

grammatical forms in accordance with accepted<br />

conversational conventions.<br />

Objectives and Content<br />

This subject continues to develop skills in written and<br />

spoken Vietnamese. The focus is on communicative active<br />

oral and written skills for a wide range of contexts. An<br />

outline of the development of modern Vietnamese literary<br />

tradition will be given. Topics covered will include areas of<br />

the arts, literature and history. Time will be devoted to the<br />

discussion of the social background to the emergence of the<br />

romanised system of writing, its role as a vehicle for social<br />

change, the influence of the Western tradition of thought<br />

and the role of the Tu Luc Van Doan group of writers.<br />

Objectives and Content<br />

The objective of this subject is to provide further training in<br />

reading skills to enable students to deal with contemporary<br />

and original Vietnamese texts on their own. Selected texts,<br />

contemporary in nature and diverse in topic, will form the<br />

basis for the required reading for this subject.<br />

AY1 00 Psychology 100<br />

Assessment: practical exercises (including participation as a<br />

subject in research), a practical report and an examination<br />

A subject in the Bachelor of Arts<br />

Objectives and Content<br />

AY100 and AY101 are designed to introduce students to the<br />

content and method of psychology. Topics introduced in<br />

AY100 include psychology as a science, ethics in research,<br />

biological foundations of behaviour, sensation, perception<br />

and consciousness, emotion, learning and experimental<br />

design and analysis.<br />

Recommended reading<br />

Students wishing to familiarise themselves with concepts in<br />

psychology could read any recent introductory psychology text<br />

available from most regional libraries.<br />

Details will be provided in the first lecture in AY100.
