planning, product and service; management, tourism, retail,<br />

advertising and promotion, international marketing and<br />

cultures.<br />

Students are encouraged to think through problems and to<br />

find their own answers. They are introduced to<br />

understanding thinking processes to ensure that they make<br />

the most of their abilities. Topics like focus, vision,<br />

understanding, creativity, the power to influence the future<br />

are all part of the marketing curriculum.<br />

Organisation Behaviour (OB)<br />

The subjects in this integrated area broadly cover many<br />

aspects of organisations and the human behaviour and<br />

processes which occur within those settings.<br />

As a sequence of study, it aims to:<br />

students for a range of management roles in<br />

buslness;<br />

develop a strong understanding of organisation theory<br />

and structures, the behaviour of groups, the individuals<br />

who comprise those groups and the dynamic intrrrelationships<br />

among all thew parts and aspects;<br />

develop students' capacity to reflect upon and<br />

understand their own and others' behaviour;<br />

$ develop communication and personal competence so<br />

that students are better equipped to fill the<br />

organisational roles which require interpersonal skills.<br />

&. The organisation behaviour study area can be taken as a<br />

b. vocational preparation for human resource management<br />

(HRM), leading to associate membership of the Australian<br />

K Human Resources Institute (course accredited by AHRI).<br />

To gain such eligibility, students would need to take all<br />

C. eight units offered in the OB/HRM area, in appropriate<br />

sequences and to additionally include in their degree two<br />

E. further specified units.<br />

Many students will wish to take 0B studies without a<br />

career in HRM in mind. Such a major would provide<br />

excellent insight into human behaviour in organisations<br />

and the management of people, and would combine well<br />

with any other vocational major. All business professionals<br />

ultimately work in or with organisations and with people.<br />

A large proportion of the course material in these major<br />

streams is taught in an experiential manner which requires<br />

active involvement by students, structured reflection, linkage<br />

with 'outside' experiences, and thinking through application<br />

issues.<br />

Bachelor of Business course<br />

structure<br />

Students undertake a total of twenty-four subjects,<br />

consisting of a core of seven subjects, and a combination of<br />

majors, minors and electives. A major consists of six<br />

subjects (at least two at stage three) from one specialisation.<br />

A minor consists of four subjects (at least one at stage three)<br />

from one specialisation.<br />

Students should note the following restrictions on subjec<br />

that can be credited towards the Bachelor of Business:<br />

a maximum of twelve subjects from any specialisatic<br />

(e.g. Accounting);<br />

a maximum of ten stage one subjects;<br />

a minimum of four stage three subjects;<br />

the subject AT119 Academic Communication Skills<br />

cannot be used for credits towards the Bachelor of<br />

Business;<br />

the subjects BC331 Taxation and BC336 Advanced<br />

Taxation may be counted towards either an<br />

Accounting or Law major or minor, but not both.<br />

BH334 Asian Business may only be counted as an<br />

elective, not towards any major or minor;<br />

B1300 Industrial Project cannot be used for credit<br />

towards the Bachelor of Business; and<br />

Students will be allowed to study a maximum of<br />

twenty-six subjects as part of a Bachelor of Business.<br />
