Objectives<br />

To develop students research abilities in preparation for<br />

industry and postgraduate work.<br />

Content<br />

Students will elect a staff member to act as a supervisor and<br />

in consultation with them, nominate an area or topic to<br />

research. Students may choose a new topic or continue with<br />

their minor research project from the previous semester and<br />

develop it further. Assistance will be given in accessing data<br />

banks and libraries at other local, interstate and overseas<br />

universities.<br />

Students will work at their own pace investigating their<br />

topic thoroughly to produce a research paper or project,<br />

which may be in a written, visual or demonstrational form.<br />

A combination of either may be used.<br />

ID708 lndependent Study Program<br />

Prerequisites: ID601 Industrial Design 6, ID608 1S.P. I,<br />

A fourth year subject in the Bachelor of Design (Honours)<br />

(Industrial Design)<br />

Objectives<br />

To provide an opportunity for students to enhance their<br />

program in accordance with their career aspirations.<br />

Content<br />

The independent study program is a series of subjects that<br />

will allow students a decree " of choice and self-direction<br />

through their program. Students should use these subjects to<br />

extend specific design or research investigations into their<br />

current project activities.<br />

ID801 Industrial Design 8<br />

25 credit points 16 hoursper week Prahran<br />

Prerequisites: ID701 Industrial Design 7, ID708 I.S.P.2,<br />

ID707 Design Research Methods I Assessment: teaching staff<br />

and external design professionals convene to undertake<br />

assessment of this unit.<br />

A fourth year subject in the Bachelor of Design (Honours)<br />

(Industrial Design)<br />

Objectives<br />

To . examine, . develop and propose solutions to identified<br />

problems.<br />

Content<br />

It is expected that all of the skills and knowledge gained in<br />

the previous studies will be utilised to develop<br />

comprehensive solutions. Building on the skills gained and<br />

extending abilities towards independence in managing<br />

complex design projects, emphasis on the research activities<br />

associated with product design opportunities developed with<br />

participating industry sponsors, will be the focus of this<br />

subject. It is anticipated that individuals in this subject may<br />

also elect to identify,.approach and develop solutions for<br />

industry. Students will be expected to develop concepts<br />

from a rational research base and consult with appropriate<br />

specialists.<br />

ID807 Design Research Methods 2<br />

Prerequisites: ID 707 Design Research Methods 1<br />

In this subject, students may elect a new topic or preferably,<br />

continue with their research project from the previous<br />

semester and develop it further. Assistance will be given to<br />

access data from libraries and manufacturers applicable to<br />

their area of research.<br />

topic thoroughly to produce a research paper or project,<br />

which may be in a written, visual or demonstrational form.<br />
