Progression to graduate diploma<br />

Students who perform very well in the graduate certificate<br />

may be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in<br />

Business Administration. However, success in the graduate<br />

certificate does not guarantee entry to the graduate<br />

diploma. The content of the Graduate Certificate in<br />

Business Administration (where BT411 is chosen instead of<br />

BT401) is equivalent to the first year of the Graduate<br />

Diploma in Business Administration and gives credit into<br />

the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and the<br />

Master of Business Administration (MBA).<br />

to provide a re-entry to tertiary study for graduates<br />

who, for whatever reason, would benefit from a more<br />

supportive learning environment;<br />

to provide an entry to postgraduate study for those<br />

people with excellent business experience but no<br />

formal undergraduate qualifications and who, by virtue<br />

of their age, experience, work responsibilities and other<br />

commitments, are in practical terms excluded from<br />

undergraduate and TAFE certificate courses; and<br />

to prepare candidates for further postgraduate studies<br />

in bushess information technology.<br />

Objectives<br />

The course is designed to provide candidates with the basic<br />

information technology skills necessary to support a<br />

successful career in business.<br />

The primary objectives of this course are:<br />

to develop within candidates the basic information<br />

technology skills necessary to support a successful<br />

career in business;<br />

to provide formal information technology education<br />

for personnel involved in information systems but who<br />

lack a broad perspective of information technology;<br />

to develop candidates' analytical and creative skills in<br />

using information technology for business planning,<br />

decision-making and opportunity analysis.<br />

At the completion of the course, it is expected that<br />

candidates:<br />

will have completed a business course containing a<br />

body of knowledge which is relevant to immediate and<br />

potential opportunities;<br />

will have a recognised qualification which will assist<br />

them in developing their careers in business; and<br />

will be equipped with suitable skills necessary to<br />

continue with further postgraduate study in business<br />

information technology.<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

In order to be accepted into this course, applicants should<br />

have:<br />

a recognised undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a<br />

discipline other than computing; and/or<br />

at least five years significant and relevant industry<br />

experience; and/or<br />

gaining entry to the Graduate Diploma in BIT will be<br />

admitted with advanced standing. Entry is not automatic<br />

and is subject to academic performance and selection quotas.<br />

Management Stream -<br />

Objectives<br />

To explore the analysis and development processes that<br />

are used in industry to construct computing systems;<br />

to investigate state of the art developments in the<br />

computing industry and possible directions in the<br />

future;<br />

to examine group processes in organisations, their<br />

interaction with the environment, tasks and structures,<br />

and their management implications.<br />

Entrance requirements<br />

The course is open to graduates and non-graduates who<br />

have significant experience in the computer industry.
