Industry Based Learning (IBL)<br />

The aim of this honours year is to meet the present and<br />

future needs of industry, and to educate people with a high<br />

degree of creative ability for positions of administrative<br />

responsibility in the areas of direction and production of<br />

printing, publishing, computer-based production techniques,<br />

advertising, education and information design.<br />

At the completion of the second year, students with a credit<br />

or above in all subjects may be selected for the honours<br />

program. They are required to spend the whole of the third<br />

year working in an industrial situation organised by<br />

9. <strong>Swinburne</strong>. This third year enables the student to begin<br />

professional practice, supervised by senior staff.<br />

During the year in industry, students are required to attend<br />

Degree students who achieve an overall high standard in<br />

their final year qualify to apply for the <strong>Swinburne</strong> Design<br />

Centre Honours program which provides an introduction to<br />

professional design practice in an educational environment.<br />

Students who are selected for this program undertake a<br />

variety of professional consultancy-based design projects<br />

under the guidance of lecturing staff and industry mentors.<br />

Degree course revision<br />

Students entering the first year of the Civil Engineering<br />

course will be enrolled in the common first year, and will<br />

follow the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) 1995 syllabus.<br />

Part-time study<br />

The course may be completed by part-time study. A few<br />

subjects are available as evening subjects.<br />
