g) that the student be required to<br />

undertake further assessment;<br />

h) to suspend the student from the<br />

University for a period up to a<br />

maximum of two semesters;<br />

i) that the student be excluded<br />

from further study in the course.<br />

Such students wishing to reenter,<br />

may apply for readmission<br />

to the course after a<br />

minimum of two years.<br />

11.4.3 Action<br />

a) The student shall be informed in<br />

writing of the decision and<br />

reasons for the decision of the<br />

Assessment Conduct<br />

Committee. Such written advice<br />

shall be mailed to the student's<br />

semester address shown in the<br />

University's records, within five<br />

working days of the<br />

Committee's decision being<br />

made.<br />

b) The statement must also detail<br />

relevant appeal mechanisms as<br />

per Section 11.5 of these<br />

procedures.<br />

11.5 Assessment Conduct Appeals Committee<br />

11.5.1 A student may appeal pursuant to<br />

Section 11.4.3 of these procedures.<br />

A written appeal, clearly stating the<br />

basis for appeal, must be lodged with<br />

the Academic Registrar within ten<br />

working days of receiving the letter<br />

of outcome from the Assessment<br />

Conduct Committee. The letter of<br />

appeal must be from the student and<br />

shall follow the format described<br />

below:<br />

11.5.2 Where the Academic Registrar or<br />

nominee is not satisfied that the<br />

basis for appeal has been clearly<br />

stated. he/she shall seek further - ---<br />

clarification in writing from the<br />

appellant. The appeal may not be<br />

rejected at this point but must<br />

proceed ultimately to the Appeals<br />

Committee.<br />

11.5.3 Assessment Conduct Appeals<br />

Committee<br />

The Appeals Committee shall<br />

consist of:<br />

a) the Vice-Chancellor's nominee<br />

who will act as Chair;<br />

b) the President of the Student<br />

Union, or nominee;<br />

c) one member of the academic<br />

staff of the <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong><br />

Division of the University<br />

selected by the Chair, Academic<br />

Board, from a School other than<br />

that in which the student has<br />

been taught;<br />

provided that no member of the<br />

Assessment Conduct Appeals<br />

Committee shall have been<br />

party to the original<br />

investigation.<br />

Representation of both genders<br />

should be attempted wherever<br />

practicable and achievable.<br />

11.5.4 The Chair of the original<br />

committee, and the Subject<br />

Convener, must be given the<br />

opportunity to appear during the<br />

course of the hearing.<br />

11.5.5 The student must be given at least<br />

five working days' notice in advance<br />

of the date, time and place of the<br />

agreed hearing. The student<br />

concerned and/or hidher advocate<br />

may address the Committee and<br />

provide such information and call<br />

such others as the Committee may<br />

agree. The advocate may not also be<br />

a member of the Committee.<br />

11.5.6 The Committee will normally meet<br />

within fifteen working days of the<br />

date the formal appeal is received by<br />

the Academic Registrar.
