CHAPTER 3:CHARACTERSAND MAGIC36Interplanar MessageEvocation [Language-Dependent]Level: Clr 3Components: V, SCasting Time: 1 actionRange: See textTarget: One creatureDuration: 1 round (see text)Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)This spell allows you to send a limited message of 25words or less to the targeted creature, who may be onanother plane when the message is received. The spell isusually used as a safety device to warn a friend that youhave fallen into some trap or plane you cannot escapewithout help. It can also be used for other purposes, suchas signaling that the coast is clear for others to join yourplanar journey.Casting the spell takes one action, during which youtouch the creature you intend to communicate with. Thatcreature should be able to understand your language(otherwise, when the magic is activated, the creatureknows that you sent the message, but has no idea whatthe message is). At any time afterward, you may send ashort interplanar message to that creature. The interplanar message pops into the target’s mind, awake or asleep, and the target is aware that the messagehas been delivered. If the message arrives whenthe target is asleep, it may appear as a vivid dream that thetarget remembers upon awakening. This spell does not obligate nor force the creature youcommunicate with to act. The target cannot reply to tellyou its plans or intentions. The message reaches its targetthrough the Astral Plane, so the spell cannot reach planesseparate from (not coterminous to or coexistent with) theAstral Plane. The creature set to receive the interplanar message radiatesa dim magical aura. The spell may be cast on anunwilling creature, and in this case a successful Willsaving throw negates it.Make ManifestTransmutationLevel: Clr 4, Sor/Wiz 6Components: V, SCasting Time: 1 actionRange: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)Target: One creatureDuration: 1 round/levelSaving Throw: Will negatesSpell Resistance: YesYou can cause one creature on a coterminous or coexistentplane, along with its personal belongings, to suddenlyappear on your plane of existence. For example, the makemanifest spell allows you to cause a target on the EtherealPlane to suddenly appear on the Material Plane, and viceversa. You do not gain the ability to detect creatures onthese coterminous planes with this spell. For the duration of the spell, the target creatureretains all its abilities except for those that allow it toenter other planes. For example, a ghost brought infrom the Ethereal Plane would retain its incorporealnature, but a wizard using ethereal jaunt could beattacked normally. At the end of the spell’s duration, thetarget creature returns to whatever plane it was on beforeit was targeted by the spell, even if it has moved beyondthe range of make manifest.Mass ManifestTransmutationLevel: Clr 6, Sor/Wiz 8Components: V, S, MCasting Time: 1 actionRange: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)Area: 25-ft.-radius emanation centered on a point inspaceDuration: 1 round/levelSaving Throw: NoneSpell Resistance: YesAll creatures and unattended objects on coterminous andcoexistent planes within the area of mass manifest areinstantly brought onto your plane. For the duration of the spell, the target creature retainsall its abilities except for those that allow it to enter otherplanes. At the end of mass manifest’s duration, objects andcreatures return to their plane of origin, even if they haveleft the spell’s area.Material Component: A handful of copper dust, cast inthe air.Portal AlarmAbjurationLevel: Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 2Components: V, S, MCasting Time: 1 actionRange: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)Targets: One interplanar portalDuration: 2 hours/level (D)Saving Throw: NoneSpell Resistance: NoPortal alarm sounds a mental or audible alarm each timea creature of Tiny or larger size passes through themagic portal the spell is cast upon. You decide at thetime of casting whether the portal alarm will be mentalor audible.Mental Alarm: A mental alarm alerts you (and onlyyou) as long as you remain within one mile of thewarded area and on the same plane. You notice a mentaltremor that would awaken you from a normal sleep butdoes not otherwise disturb concentration (it would notinterfere with spellcasting). A silence spell has no effecton a mental alarm.
