this activity, try to see all that is necessary for building a house—effort, labour at every step.Then another triad, another activity is burning a house—destruction,the use of destructive force. These two triads must be studied togetherbecause they contradict one another.Then, in human activity, art, for instance, means the use of a specialcapacity. Efforts at self-remembering, non-identifying also enter intothe same triad.And another triad may be called invention, discovery, adaptation,craft.If you think about these four triads, they will give you material. Tryto see why these four kinds of activity are different, and how they aredifferent.There are two more triads, which you can leave at present. I cangive you the names of these two triads so that you don't mix themwith others. One of them is represented by crime, for instance. Crimeis very interesting; it is a special activity and has its own special triad,different from all other triads. And the sixth triad can be called'magic'. Simple, blind effort, like in physicalwork, will not help in self-remembering. Neither will effort in thesense of invention, adaptation, help.MRS. S. I don't understand about combinations of triads.MR. O. Why? If there are six triads, many combinations are possible.Six triads give 144 combinations, by 3. But it does not mean that youmust begin with figures. Try to understand the meaning.MR. C. Does the sixth triad come about accidentally or by humaneffort?MR. O. If we speak about human actions we take more intentional
actions. If we speak about things that happen it would be a differentdivision, a different calculation. We know that everything happens, butat the same time in our mind we divide things that happen fromintentional actions. Now we speak about intentional actions.MISS C. What kind of things do you mean by destroying a house? Is itsymbolical?MR. O. Well, burning it. It is not a symbolical expression. We speakabout facts.MR. R. I tried to understand the connection of space and time triadswith mechanicalness.MR. O. Mechanicalness means chance, Law of Accident Law of Accidentmeans limitations. Space and time are limitations.MR M . Does the crime triad refer to all crime?MR. O. What do you mean? Crime is an objective idea Some crimesmay not be crimes at all, but only called crimes. But if it really is crime,all crimes are a manifestation of one particular triad—a very clevertriad, a very easy triad. It needs a special capacity.MR. P.
