work will help another. You have octaves in everything—personalwork, group work, third line.I just want to tell you about one other thing to do with theseintervals. Maybe some of you have heard that we have a house in thecountry where people can come and work if they feel the need of it. Itis almost full now with people from other groups, but at the same timethere is a possibility for some more people to come and try to work.I will just give you a short history to explain. In 1917, when therevolution began in Petersburg, a certain number of people went tothe North Caucasus. At first there were very few people and then morepeople came, and in the spring of 1918 we numbered about forty, Ithink. Unfortunately, we had to move about from place to place all thetime, but all the same we had to work together. In the country we cutdown trees and sawed wood. When we lived in towns we had to workin the house, go to the bazaars and so on. From the beginning werealized what an enormous difference it made, that it was one thing totalk and another to work together. Later, when some of us came toEurope, we tried several times to organize something of that kind.There were several attempts, but they failed. Here in England, tenyears ago, we began on a very small scale, with just a few people.From 1931 we had a permanent place at Sevenoaks, quite small, butwith a garden and so on, and about twenty people could come atweek-ends and work there. Then we got a bigger place. Then, twoyears ago, we got a much bigger place still, where we are now. It iscalled Lyne Place, two miles from Virginia Water. About twentypeople generally live there, some people come down on week-days andon Sundays there are usually more than a hundred people. They workin the fields, with animals—all kinds of things. At present I cannotpromise for certain that even those who wish can join the work there.You must ask and then you will have an answer. But I want to arrangesmall groups there, every Friday at 3 o'clock, of fifteen to twentypeople. Those who would like to come on Fridays should give theirnames to Madame K. and when it is possible you will be invited there.If one particular Friday you cannot come, just mention it or writelater. In this way you can see the place at any rate, and later perhapsyou may like to come and work. In any case it will be interesting, andin some cases very useful.MISS C. Must it be 3 o'clock?
