without trying them. Certainly one will make mistakes, but better tomake mistakes than do nothing. If you think, you will see that it is notonly an individual difficulty. How difficult to organize something, togive something. Plans may be right, but a certain number of people arenecessary, and constant arrival of new people is necessary. By theirarguing, their ideas, remarks, you get many things you missed before.This is school-work. If people want to go on, they must help to teachnew people.Our work in London, for example, reached a very interesting stage,but the war came, and now they cannot have new people, so theymove in the same circle they were in before. A certain number of old people arealso necessary.MRS. T. In considering people for a new group, should we not findpeople with right qualifications?MR. O. Certainly, if you bring wrong people you will get no profit from it.There is a very definite principle that was explained. You rememberit was explained about the staircase. The path does not begin at thelevel of life. When you are on the staircase, if you want to take a step,you must put somebody in your place. This is part of organization. Itwill be explained how to do it, and so on. But it is very difficult to putpeople on your step, if sleeping people under the guidance of deadpeople produce disturbance all round you.MISS O. In the Food Diagram, there are two places where conscious
shock is necessary for further refinement. Do they have any relation toB influence?MR. O. No. Even for the first conscious shock, all material comes fromC influence—and your own desire. Second conscious shock is very far.C influence means school teaching.MISS H . Is it effort to self-remember which produces first consciousshock?MR, O. Yes, but only if it is well made. It must be a good effort.MISS H . Do we produce energy that way? Is that impression la 24?MR. O. No, that theoretical terminology will not help. Self-remembering, if it is successful—that is, if one continues regularly—may producesecond conscious shock. But this is not a question of accidental effort.It must be permanent effort.***
