The Master’s Degree <strong>in</strong> European Studies is issued by the University of Siena on the<br />

basis of a cooperation agreement with the partner Universities (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Jagiellonian<br />

University), which share a system of recognition on the Master’s qualification.<br />

The Master was created with the support of the European Commission <strong>in</strong> 2000 and<br />

was awarded the 2007 Lifelong Learn<strong>in</strong>g Silver Award as a didactic pilot experience.<br />

The project was born thanks to a long scientific and didactic collaboration <strong>in</strong> the field<br />

of European Studies among the teachers who promote it, most of them already<br />

holders of Jean Monnet Chairs and Modules. This University network gives to Master<br />

students the chance to ga<strong>in</strong> expertise <strong>in</strong> the general process of build<strong>in</strong>g Europe trough<br />

an <strong>in</strong>ternational, <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary and multil<strong>in</strong>gual approach. The Master it<strong>in</strong>erant<br />

structure, based on the mobility of both students and teachers from the various<br />

partner Universities, allows study periods <strong>in</strong> one or more European States, <strong>in</strong> the<br />

context of an high excellence established <strong>in</strong> the field of European Studies by partner<br />

Universities. The Master actively prepares for job positions <strong>in</strong> the EU <strong>in</strong>stitutions, <strong>in</strong><br />

local, regional and national public adm<strong>in</strong>istrations, particularly <strong>in</strong> their <strong>in</strong>teractions<br />

with the EU, <strong>in</strong> NGOs operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>ternational and European context, <strong>in</strong><br />

companies and mult<strong>in</strong>ational and national private organizations, <strong>in</strong> research and<br />

consult<strong>in</strong>g centres, <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>formation and the media sectors.<br />

General Module: October-December; Specialist Module: January-April; Research<br />

Module: April- July. The Research Module will take place <strong>in</strong> one of the partner<br />

Universities, chosen by the student. In the module each student will prepare a written<br />

dissertation to be discussed and evaluated at the end of the Master (September-<br />

October) at the University of Siena, or – follow<strong>in</strong>g the agreement of the Scientific<br />

Committee – at the University of the third module.<br />

For Italian students a Diploma di Laurea triennale (three years diploma) is required.<br />

For foreign students a first cycle University degree (or an equivalent degree) is<br />
