Fuels – the source of primary energy and the basis for the development and even the<br />

existence of contemporary economies. The production and use of fuels needs to follow<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>ability pr<strong>in</strong>ciples <strong>in</strong> order to be acceptable <strong>in</strong> the long term.<br />

Students at the course ga<strong>in</strong> the competence and knowledge <strong>in</strong> the field of fuels technologies<br />

and the analysis of their use and production. The course comb<strong>in</strong>es two<br />

groups of subjects: the basis of fuel technologies, and the pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of energy systems<br />

analysis and development. The former group comprises the follow<strong>in</strong>g subjects:<br />

eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g of chemical reactors, surface phenomena and <strong>in</strong>dustrial catalytic<br />

processes, physics of energy transformation, basics of biotechnology, batteries and<br />

fuel cells, and environmental protection <strong>in</strong> chemical processes. The latter group comprises<br />

the follow<strong>in</strong>g subjects: model<strong>in</strong>g and plann<strong>in</strong>g of energy systems, energy markets<br />

and policies, energy and the environment.<br />

Classes, laboratories and projects constitute the ma<strong>in</strong> part of the course, thus giv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

practical competence for the application of the acquired knowledge.<br />

Graduates are prepared to analyze and optimize the processes of fuels use and production<br />

with respect to technical, economic and environmental issues.<br />

Tuition for the first year is higher to <strong>in</strong>clude additional, nonrefundable 200 EUR<br />

5000 EUR - per year<br />
