Presently nearly 30,000 students are following full-time, evening and part-time
studies at Szczecin University. Nine out of ten its faculties are located in the centre of
a beautiful, green town on the Odra river whose historical and modern buildings dot
the centre and surrounding areas. These are: Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of
Philology, Faculty of Economics and Management, Faculty of Management and
Economics of Services, Faculty of Natural Science, Faculty of Marine Sciences, Faculty
of Mathematics and Physics, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Law and Administration.
There is also an out-of-town faculty of Administration in Jarocin. At present Szczecin
University employs over 1200 academic teachers including 280 professors (more than
100 full professors). The staff actively participates in any events and activities resulting
from the process of social, economic and cultural transformation, seeking solutions to
important national and regional problems.
The University supports and promotes advancement of active researchers, which
in turn contributes to its rapid growth. After twenty five years of its existence the institution
won full academic autonomy as six of its faculties (the Faculty of Humanities, the
Faculty of Law and Administration, the Faculty of Economics and Management, the
Faculty of Management and Economics of Services and the Faculty of Natural Science)
have the right to confer a habilitated doctor’s degree. The University is actively implementing
reforms in the framework of the Bologna process. Two-cycle programmes are
offered in most study areas and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is used to
ensure academic recognition of courses and programmes completed during mobility
periods.
International cooperation is recognised as an important factor in enhancing the
quality of research and teaching. The university cooperates with about 82 European
higher education institutions in the framework of the LLP/ERASMUS programme and
50 partner institutions world-wide. Particular emphasis is placed on increasing student
mobility.
