One of the oldest Polish universities, the University of Agriculture in Krakow is continuing
agricultural studies first initiated at the Jagiellonian University in 1890. Since
1953 the University has been operating as an independent institution. At present the
University of Agriculture has 7 faculties and two Interfaculty Studies: Biotechnology
and Landscape Architecture, it provides education for 12 500 students in 18 main
fields and 45 specializations, including Agroecology taught in English.
Student and teacher exchange is conducted within LLP-ERASMUS Programme (with
over 40 universities), CEEPUS (8 partners universities) and LEONARDO da Vinci (self-government
institutions in Germany). Since 1990 the University has actively participated in the
EU educational programmes (Tempus, CEEPUS, Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Jean Monnet)
and research projects within the 5th and 6thFramework Programme and INTERREG.
Academic staff members take part in COST actions and conduct joint research on
the basis of 37 bilateral agreements signed with partner institutions in Europe, United
States and Asia.
They are also actively involved in TEMPS project focussed on cooperation with
Ukraine and Macedonia and in projects funded from Visegrad Funds focused on
educational programmes for Ukraine. The University is a member of University Network
of European Capitals of Culture (UNeECC) – an organization promoting the cities
– European Capitals of Culture. In 2008 it joined the European University Association
(EUA) and in 2010 and ICA Regional Network for Central and South Eastern Europe
which provides ample opportunity for developing cooperation with foreign universities.
