Philosophy develops students’ <strong>in</strong>tellectual abilities like no other academic discipl<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

It tra<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong>telligence, the ability to understand new <strong>in</strong>formation, a capacity for<br />

understand<strong>in</strong>g other people and cultures; philosphy teaches how to properly <strong>in</strong>terpret<br />

the behaviour of <strong>in</strong>dividuals and societies. It fosters imag<strong>in</strong>ation and, most of all,<br />

makes it easier to put together a coherent general world view as well as to determ<strong>in</strong>e<br />

the aims of human life. The program of studies <strong>in</strong>cludes the follow<strong>in</strong>g obligatory<br />

subjects: Introduction to Philosophy, Ontology, Logic I [General Methodology and<br />

Introduction to Formal Logic, Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, Recent Polish<br />

Philosophy: the Lvov & Warsaw School, Epistemology, Logic II [Formal Logic] or<br />

Logical Semiotics, Modern Philosophy, Lat<strong>in</strong>, Analytic Philosophy, Current Cont<strong>in</strong>ental<br />

Philosophy, Ethics. PSE students also participate <strong>in</strong> English-language sem<strong>in</strong>ars,<br />

prosem<strong>in</strong>ars and elective subjects offered as part of the Polish program of studies by<br />

the Philosophy Institute. Studies ends with prepar<strong>in</strong>g Bachelor’s Dissertation and<br />

pass<strong>in</strong>g the Bachelor’s Exam. Philosophy graduates are be<strong>in</strong>g seen by many employers<br />

as particularly important valuable employees. They f<strong>in</strong>d employment, on the one<br />

hand <strong>in</strong> various educational <strong>in</strong>stitutions, publish<strong>in</strong>g companies and the mass media<br />

and, on the other hand, <strong>in</strong> government offices, political organizations and <strong>in</strong> local<br />

government <strong>in</strong>stitutions. Those philosophy graduates who are not native-speakers also<br />

ga<strong>in</strong> a solid knowledge of English thanks to which they become more employable both<br />

with<strong>in</strong> <strong>Poland</strong> and the European Union. Their qualifications can also provide a good<br />

basis for apply<strong>in</strong>g for prestigious grants and scholarships as well as for places <strong>in</strong> MA<br />

and PhD programmes throughout Europe.<br />

EU and EFTA citizens – full-time studies are free off tuition fee); 3000 EUR per academic<br />

year (only for part-time studies);<br />

Non EU and EFTA citizens – 2200 EUR per academic year (full-time studies); 3000<br />

EURO per academic year (part-time studies).<br />

Polish or foreign high school diploma, International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate;<br />

English language proficiency; if the student has not spent several years <strong>in</strong> an English-speak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

country - a certificate such as TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE.<br />
