Drug chemistry is an <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary science deal<strong>in</strong>g with different aspects of biology,<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>e and pharmacy. It comb<strong>in</strong>es computer simulations visualiz<strong>in</strong>g molecule<br />

<strong>in</strong>teractions with practical applications, the synthesis of new medic<strong>in</strong>es and cosmetics.<br />

The aim of this specialization is to educate specialists for the pharmaceutical <strong>in</strong>dustry,<br />

who are able to work <strong>in</strong> laboratories as well as research <strong>in</strong>stitutes.<br />

A graduate:<br />

– has a fundamental knowledge of medic<strong>in</strong>al chemistry;<br />

– is aware of the synthesis and test<strong>in</strong>g of pharmaceutical and cosmetic substances;<br />

– has knowledge about the fundamental metabolic processes <strong>in</strong> cells and their relation<br />

to certa<strong>in</strong> diseases which enables a better understand<strong>in</strong>g of the function<strong>in</strong>g and design<br />

of a drug;<br />

– has a basic education <strong>in</strong> chemo<strong>in</strong>formatics, and thus can <strong>in</strong>terpret the results of<br />

simulations <strong>in</strong> silico and understands the pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of cod<strong>in</strong>g molecular structures;<br />

– has general knowledge about plann<strong>in</strong>g organic synthesis us<strong>in</strong>g retro synthetic analysis.<br />

EU/EFTA citizens apply<strong>in</strong>g on a regular basis – no fees;<br />

Non-EU/EFTA citizens: 3500 EUR per year;<br />

200 EUR – application fee.<br />

– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree diploma or equivalent <strong>in</strong> Chemistry, Environmental<br />

Chemistry or other related life sciences (e.g. Biotechnology, Environmental<br />

Protection);<br />

– a certificate of competence <strong>in</strong> English.<br />
