Dur<strong>in</strong>g the Bachelor’s study programme the students acquire knowledge and skills with<strong>in</strong><br />

the field of the English language, <strong>in</strong>tercultural communication, as well as the literature,<br />

history and culture of the English-speak<strong>in</strong>g countries. All core courses are taught <strong>in</strong><br />

English. Students <strong>in</strong> the 3rd year choose their specialization <strong>in</strong> one of the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

areas: British Literature and Culture, English Drama and Film, American Literature and<br />

Culture, Communication Theory and Practice, Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis, and<br />

Applied L<strong>in</strong>guistics, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Translation and FL Teach<strong>in</strong>g Methodology.<br />

The syllabus <strong>in</strong>cludes a compulsory module of Practical English, consist<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>in</strong>tegrated<br />

skills, phonetics and grammar. Courses <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>guistics provide the students with knowledge<br />

and skills necessary for their future professional careers as teachers of English, translators or<br />

<strong>in</strong>terpreters, media workers and academics. The general courses, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Introduction to<br />

L<strong>in</strong>guistics, Descriptive Grammar (Phonology and Syntax), Polish-English Contrastive<br />

Grammar, History of the English Language, and Psychol<strong>in</strong>guistics are obligatory for all the<br />

students. Students who decide to specialize <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>guistics follow orientation sem<strong>in</strong>ars (2nd<br />

year), Bachelor’s sem<strong>in</strong>ars, specialization sem<strong>in</strong>ars and a monograph lecture (3rd year).<br />

General courses <strong>in</strong> English Literature and Civilization cover British history, culture and literature,<br />

offer<strong>in</strong>g a broad overview of British poetry, drama and prose from the Anglo-Saxon<br />

period to the present day. Similarly, general courses <strong>in</strong> American Literature and Civilization<br />

familiarize the students with American culture, history and literature. The courses are compulsory<br />

for all the students. Additionally, the students wish<strong>in</strong>g to specialize <strong>in</strong> these areas<br />

choose orientation sem<strong>in</strong>ars <strong>in</strong> the 2nd year and the specialization module <strong>in</strong> the 3rd year.<br />

The studies are free of charge for Polish and the EU/EFTA citizens.<br />

The charge of 2000 EUR/year applies for students from outside the EU/EFTA, exclusive<br />

of an additional 200 EUR charge that covers registration fee. For students of Polish<br />

orig<strong>in</strong> the tuition is reduced by 30%.<br />

A high school diploma, a transcript of records with the subjects/grades and a certificate<br />

of proficiency <strong>in</strong> English for foreigners (unless the secondary education was taught <strong>in</strong><br />

English) are required. Basic command of the Polish language (B1 level) is also necessary.<br />
