The ma<strong>in</strong> aim of the specialization Theoretical Physics is to provide comprehensive<br />

knowledge about theoretical physics and to prepare the student to carry out further study<br />

or research <strong>in</strong> this field. Additionally, students taught <strong>in</strong> English will ga<strong>in</strong> knowledge of<br />

English physics term<strong>in</strong>ology and skills <strong>in</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g this language. The practical use of English<br />

will be particularly pronounced dur<strong>in</strong>g classes and sem<strong>in</strong>ars. Preparation and defense of<br />

the master’s thesis <strong>in</strong> English will be a practical verification of the acquired language skills.<br />

Students of the specialization Theoretical Physics will graduate with a Master's degree<br />

<strong>in</strong> physics. They will have a broad and comprehensive knowledge of theoretical<br />

physics, proficiency <strong>in</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g highly sophisticated mathematical and computer<br />

methods, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g numerical simulations. The students will be able to prepare a<br />

master's thesis on classical subjects, like condensed matter theory, field theory, particle<br />

physics, astrophysics or <strong>in</strong> more contemporary areas like nanophysics and quantum<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation. Another advantage of graduates will be their advanced knowledge of<br />

English, which will facilitate read<strong>in</strong>g specialist literature, writ<strong>in</strong>g scientific articles and<br />

prepar<strong>in</strong>g conference talks. It will <strong>in</strong>crease a student's chances to cont<strong>in</strong>ue study at<br />

foreign universities or to have a career <strong>in</strong> areas not connected to physics.<br />

EU/EFTA citizens apply<strong>in</strong>g on a regular basis – no fees;<br />

Non-EU/EFTA citizens: 3500 EUR per year;<br />

− a diploma of a Bachelor's or Master's degree <strong>in</strong> Physics, Medical Physics, Technical<br />

Physics or related majors. Admission is based on the applicant's grades received at<br />

the Bachelor's or Master's degree levels.<br />

− a certificate of English language competence or a certificate of completion of<br />

secondary school where classes were taught <strong>in</strong> English.<br />
